THE ANTARCTIC DREAM

Day 1 Depart London Heathrow
Fly overnight from London with British Airways to Buenos Aires.

Day 2 Arrive Buenos Aires
Arrive in the morning where you will be met and transferred to the Alvear Palace Hotel. Originally known as Santa Maria del Buen Ayre referring to the ‘good winds’ that bought sailors across the ocean in the 1500s, Buenos Aires is a vibrant city with bustling streets, wide boulevards, leafy parks and plazas. (N)

Day 3 Buenos Aires
Take a guided tour through this cosmopolitan city divided into barrios or neighborhoods, each different, yet full of character. Visit the Plaza de Mayo, the main square in the heart of the city, the bohemian quarter of San Telmo, the colourful port area of La Boca and the famous Recoleta cemetery, where Eva Peron is buried. (B)

Day 4 Buenos Aires
This morning transfer to the port for the journey by hydrofoil to Colonia del Sacramento, a UNESCO World Heritage site situated just across the River Plate in Uruguay. Founded in 1680 by the Portuguese, this old colonial town is rich in history and is characterised by cobbled streets and picturesque old houses that is a relaxing contrast to the vibrancy of Buenos Aires. Day 5 Buenos Aires to Ushuaia – by air
Transfer to the airport for your flight south to Ushuaia. Located on the island of Tierra del Fuego in a wide bay, Ushuaia is the southernmost city in the world and is the staging point for expeditions to Antarctica. In the afternoon visit the old prison of Ushuaia and the fascinating Museum del Fin del. Stay for two nights at the Las Hayas Resort Hotel overlooking the Beagle Channel outside of the town. (B)

Day 6 Ushuaia
Today enjoy a leisurely trek through the Tierra del Fuego National Park, accompanied by a local guide. Located 11kms west of Ushuaia this beautiful park offers dramatic scenery with waterfalls, forests, mountains and glaciers. Walk through the Fueguian forest to Roca Lake and continue along the beaver dams to the beautiful Lapataia Bay. (B)

Day 7 Depart Ushuaia - MV Antarctic Dream
Today you are at leisure to relax. Depart Ushuaia this evening on the MV Antarctic Dream (Shackleton Deck). (B/L/D)

Day 8 Drake Passage
&
Day 9 Drake Passage

Spend the next two days sailing south through Drake Passage. (B/L/D)

Day 10 King George Island
Today, disembark to admire the beauty of King George Island. Later In the afternoon visit Aitcho Island before continuing your crossing to Neko Bay. (B/L/D)

Day 11 Antarctic Peninsula & Neko Bay
This morning explore Neko Bay, discovered by Belgian explorer Adrian de Gerlache and Port Lockroy on Gaudier Island which was the principle base of the Tabarin Operation of 1944. This is an excellent place for wildlife viewing with blue-eyed shags, cape petrels, skuas, snowy sheathbills, leopard seals, orcas and mink whales all regular visitors. (B/L/D)

Day 12 Petermann Island
Sail south through the narrow Lemaire Channel to Petermann Island, the most southern land point of the expedition. Disembark and enjoy being in the company of the colony of resident Gentoo penguins. The island is also home to a colony of beautiful Adelei penguins, skuas and blue-eyed shags.(B/L/D)

Day 13 Paradise Bay & Cuverville Island
Today marks the beginning of the return leg of the voyage. Stops will be made at both Paradise Bay and Cuverville Island to not only witness the dramatic scenery but also to visit one of the largest colonies of Gentoo penguins. (B/L/D)

Day 14 Deception Island, Whaler’s Bay & Pendulum Cove
This morning sail past Deception Island, the region’s largest active volcano, before disembarking at Whaler’s Bay and Pendulum Cove for the chance to swim in the crystal clear waters. Later visit Hannah Point on Livingstone Island which is home to Chinstrap and Gentoo penguins, Wilson petrels, skuas, blue-eyed shags and, if lucky, sea elephants. (B/L/D)

Day 15 Drake Passage
&
Day 16 Drake Passage

Today leave the Antarctic and head north back across the Drake Passage. (B/L/D)

Day 17 Ushuaia to Buenos Aires – by air
Arrive into Ushuaia after breakfast and transfer to Ushuaia Airport for your flight back to Buenos Aires. Stay overnight the Alvear Palace Hotel. (B)

Day 18 Depart Buenos Aires
This afternoon return to Buenos Aires Airport to catch the British Airways flight back to London Heathrow via Sao Paulo. (B)

Day 19 Arrive London Heathrow
Arrive London Heathrow in the morning

Prices vary according to selected airlines, hotels and season, however, an indication to the current cost of this itinerary is from £10,240. All prices are per person and are based on a minimum of TWO persons travelling together and sharing a twin bedded room with meals as indicated.
