A VOYAGE TO THE HEART OF THE AMAZON

Day 1 Depart London Heathrow (Tuesday)
Fly overnight from London to Sao Paulo with British Airways.

Day 2 Arrive Sao Paulo (Wednesday)
Arrive in the morning into Sao Paulo where you will be met and transferred to the Fasano Hotel for your overnight stay. South America's largest city, Sao Paulo is full of energy and has an excellent range of good restaurants and bars. (N)

Day 3 Sao Paulo to Iguazu – by air (Thursday)
This morning enjoy a short tour of Sao Paulo before flying to Iguazu. Four times wider than Niagara, the Iguazu Falls are undoubtedly the most dramatic in the world. Stay at Hotel das Cataratas for two nights. (B)

Day 4 Iguazu (Friday)
Today take a boat safari up the river to the Iguazu Falls – a cacophony of thundering water, colourful rainbows and furious torrents make this a breathtaking sight. (B)

Day 5 Iguazu to Manaus – by air (Saturday)
via Sao Paulo

Leave Iguazu and fly onto Manaus which diverts via Sao Paulo. On your arrival into Manaus you will be met and transferred to the Tropical Manaus Hotel where you will stay overnight. (B)

Day 6 Begin Amazon River Cruise (Sunday)
This morning join the Motor Yacht Tucano for your seven night Amazon Cruise. Led by accomplished naturalists, the MY Tucano, with just nine cabins and a maximum of 18 guests, is a comfortable and spacious expedition cruise vessel with large sleeping quarters, private facilities and air-conditioning. This cruise will take you to places that have remain unchanged for millions of years, into secluded villages and across a corner of the world that is heart-stopping in its immense beauty and its sheer scale. Day 7 Cruise (Monday)

Day 8 Cruise (Tuesday)

Over the next two days travel up the Rio Negro stopping to explore the rainforest on foot and visit local communities. (B/L/D)

Day 9 Cruise (Wednesday)
Today arrive at the Rio Jauaperi – an area of outstanding natural beauty. Spend the rest of the day exploring the surrounding area. (B/L/D)

Day 10 Cruise (Thursday)
Navigate the south western bank of the Rio Negro to observe wildlife. The day also includes guided walks into the rainforest. (B/L/D)

Day 11 Cruise (Friday)
Today make a visit an Amazonian village before travelling overnight to the confluence of the Amazon and Negro Rivers. (B/L/D)

Day 12 Cruise (Saturday)
This morning visit Lago Janauari Ecological Park, an area abundant in wildlife. Later continue to the ‘meeting of the waters’ the place where the world’s two largest rivers, the Amazon and the Negro, join. Return to Manaus in the evening and spend your final night onboard the MY Tucano. (B/L/D)

Day 13 Arrive Manaus (Sunday)
Leave the Tucano after breakfast where you will be met and transferred to the Tropical Manaus Hotel for you overnight stay. (B)

Day 14 Manaus to Rio de Janeiro – by air (Monday)
This morning return to Manaus Airport and fly to Rio de Janeiro via the Brazilian capital city Brasilia. On your arrival in Rio de Janeiro you will be met and transferred to the Copacabana Palace Hotel for your three night stay. (B)

Day 15 Rio de Janeiro (Tuesday)
Spend the day sightseeing with your guide. This morning enjoy a visit to Corcovado Mountain to see the immense statue of Christ the Redeemer and the nearby Tijuca Forest. Also visit Santa Teresa, a charming bohemian district, noted for its colonial and 19th Century buildings. After lunch visit the historical area of the city, stopping at Cinelandia Square with its historical buildings including the beautiful Municipal Theatre, the National Library and the National Museum of Fine Arts. (B)

Day 16 Rio de Janeiro (Wednesday)
This morning you are at leisure to relax. In the afternoon take the cable car ride to Sugar Loaf Mountain from where the sunset views over the city are breathtaking. Rio de Janeiro is an inspiring city of contrasts and the mountains, ocean, beaches and architecture all add to make a memorable stay. (B)

Day 17 Depart Rio de Janeiro (Thursday)
Today you are at leisure to relax and enjoy this vibrant city. This evening depart with British Airways non-stop to London – please note that flights only depart on a Thursday, Sunday or Tuesday. (B)

Day 18 Arrive London Heathrow (Friday)
Arrive into London Heathrow in the morning.
