SOUTHERN BURMA AND THE MERGUI ARCHIPELAGO
Day 1 London Heathrow to Kuala Lumpur
Depart London Heathrow on the non–stop Malaysian Airlines flight to Kuala Lumpur.
Day 2 Kuala Lumpur to Yangon – by air
Arrive into Kuala Lumpur in the morning and connect directly onto Yangon,
capital of Myanmar. On your arrival you will be met and transferred to the
Governor’s Residence Hotel where you will stay overnight. (N)
Day 3 Yangon to Kyaiktiyo – 180kms
This morning leave Yangon for the drive to Kyaiktiyo. One of the most
revered Buddhist sites in Myanmar, Kyaiktiyo’s Golden Rock is instantly
recognisable – spectacularly located balancing high on a ledge. At the
summit, enjoy the views before returning to the base and the Mountain Top
Hotel where you will stay overnight. (B)
Day 4 Kyaiktiyo to Hpa–an – 90kms
via Thaton
Today leave your hotel and explore the area surrounding the Golden Rock.
Later, return to the base camp and continue by car to Hpa–an. Just before
Thanlwin bridge stop at Kawtgoon Cave which is decorated with 7th Century
artwork. Stay overnight at the Zwekabin Hotel in Hpa–an. (B)
Day 5 Hpa–an to Mawlamyaing – 75kms
After breakfast, leave Hpa–an and continue on your journey
to Mawlamyaing. Sights en-route include Shwe Yin Myaw Pagoda by the
Thanlwin River, the bustling jetty and city market, Zwekabin Hill
and Kyauk Kalat – a small rock hill formed like a wine glass. Continue
your journey and after the Gyaing River visit the Khayonegu Caves that
enshrines numerous Buddha images, stalactites and stalagmites. From here
drive onto Mawlamyaing and the Attran Hotel where you will stay for the
next two nights. (B)
Day 6 Mawlamyaing – visit Thanbyuzayat and Kyaikkami
This morning drive south from Mawlamyaing and visit Mudon – site of the
world’s largest reclining Buddha image. From here continue to Thanbyuzayat
and the World War Two Htaukkyant War Cemetery and finally to Kyaikkami and
the Yele Paya which is home to eleven hair relics of the Buddha. Later,
return to Mawlamyaing and enjoy the sunset from the Kyaikthanlan
Pagoda. (B)
Day 7 Mawlamyaing to Yangon – 290kms
Today depart Mawlamyaing and drive back to Yangon along the Thaton–Mottama
breaking the journey with some stops en–route. After lunch at a local restaurant
arrive back into Yangon later this afternoon and continue to the Governor’s
Residence Hotel where you will stay overnight. (B)
Day 8 Yangon to Kawthoung – by air
Kawthoung to 115 Island – by boat
This morning you will be met and transferred to Yangon Airport in good time
to catch your onward flight to Kawthoung – please note that this flight only
operates on a Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.
On your arrival in Kawthoung you will be met and transferred to either the MV Mergui Princess or the MV Ayer Princess which will be your base for the next two nights. Depart for 115 Island enjoying lunch onboard. On arrival, you are at leisure to explore the beauties of this virgin island. Activities include sea kayaking, snorkelling, fishing, a jungle trek or simply swimming in the sea. (B/L/D)
Day 9 115 Island to Bo Cho Island
After breakfast continue to Bo Cho Island stopping en–route at Nyaung Wee
Island. After lunch you are at leisure to relax and explore Bo Cho Island.

Day 10 Bo Cho Island to Kawthoung – by boat
Kawthoung to Yangon – by air
Today return to Kawthoung Airport in good time to catch your return flight
to Yangon. On your arrival you will be met and transferred to the Governor’s
Residence Hotel (Deluxe Garden View Room) where you will stay for the next
two nights. Please note that this flight only operates on a Monday, Wednesday,
Friday and Saturday. (B/L)
Day 11 Yangon
Today tour this colourful city. Places of interest include the Chaukhtatgyi,
a colossal reclining Buddha, the beautiful Kandawgyi Lake and the magical
Shwedagon Pagoda. This 2,500 year old Buddhist temple is resplendent in over
60 tonnes of gold leaf and it is easy to understand why it is the most sacred
of all Buddhist sites in Myanmar and why Kipling described the site as ‘a golden mystery.’
Stay for sunset and admire the view. (B)
Day 12 Yangon to Kuala Lumpur – by air
After a morning at leisure, return to Yangon Airport for your flight
to Kuala Lumpur and the Malaysian Airlines connection to London. (B)
Day 13 Kuala Lumpur to London Heathrow
Depart Kuala Lumpur just after midnight for your flight to London Heathrow.

Prices vary according to selected airlines, hotels and season, however, an indication to the current cost of this itinerary is from £3,715.00. All prices are per person and are based on a minimum of TWO persons travelling together and sharing a twin bedded room with meals as indicated.
