Day 1 London Heathrow to
Shanghai
Fly with Virgin on their non-stop flight to Shanghai.
Day 2 Arrive Shanghai
Arrive Shanghai in the morning and proceed by car
to the Grand Hyatt Hotel.
Day 3 Shanghai
A full day sightseeing visiting the Jade Buddha Temple,
the Yu Yuan Gardens and Shanghai Museum. Later take a walk
along the Bund to admire the old European buildings.
Day 4 Shanghai to Suzhou
- 80kms
Leave by car for attractive Zhouzhuang and Tongli situated
in the countryside near Suzhou. Arrive Suzhou on the Grand
Canal, a city famous for its classic gardens. Stay at the
Sheraton Suzhou Hotel.
Day 5 Suzhou
This morning take a short cruise on the Grand Canal, the
world’s longest canal that once stretched nearly 1800kms
from Beijing to Hangzhou. Spend the remainder of the day
sightseeing in Suzhou.
Day 6 Suzhou to Hangzhou
- by train
Travel by train to the historic city of Hangzhou situated
on the banks of the Qiangtang River. Stay at the Shangri-La
Hotel.
Day 7 Hangzhou
Take a cruise on the picturesque West Lake; for centuries
it has been famous for its picturesque landscapes. Also
visit the Lingyin Temple one of the most famous ancient
Buddhist temples in China and The Pagoda of Six Harmonies.
Day 8 Hangzhou to Xi’an
- by air
Fly to Xi’an and on arrival proceed to visit the Old
City Wall, the most complete city wall surviving in China
today. Stay at the Hyatt Regency Hotel.
Day 9 Xi’an
Drive outside of the city to visit the remarkable Qin Shi
Hunanngdi Tomb, the burial ground of the first Qin Emperor
who was interred with at least 6000 life size terracotta
warriors and horses.
Day 10 Xi’an to Beijing
- by air
Visit the Bell Tower noted for its magnificent carved beams
and painted rafters and the Big Wild Goose Pagoda, one of
the most distinctive landmarks in the city. Later fly to
Beijing and proceed by car to the Grand Hyatt Hotel.
Day 11 Beijing
This morning visit the exquisite Temple of Heaven, built
in the 15th century. Continue to Tiananmen Square and spend
the remainder of the day in the Forbidden City.
Day 12 Beijing
Travel through the countryside to Mutianyu from where you
can take a cable car up to the remarkable Great Wall. Continue
across the mountains to visit the fascinating tombs of the
Ming Emperors.
Day 13 Beijing
Visit the Summer Palace with its landscaped gardens, lakes
and pavilions. Explore the ancient alleyways or ‘Hutongs’
of old Beijing by rickshaw and end the day with a cruise
on Hou Hai Lake.
Day 14 Beijing to Shanghai
- by air
Fly back to Shanghai where there will be time to explore
Nanjing Road, Shanghai’s famous shopping street. Stay
overnight at the Grand Hyatt Hotel.
Day 15 Shanghai to London
Heathrow
Fly non-stop to London with Virgin.
