ARUNACHAL PRADESH AND THE MISHMI TRAIL

Day 1 Depart London Heathrow
Today depart London on the Emirates flight to Dubai. (N)

Day 2 Arrive Dubai
Dubai to Kolkata

Arrive into Dubai and connect onto the Emirates to Kolkata. On your arrival you will be met and transferred to the Oberoi Grand Hotel where you will stay overnight. Kolkata, the gateway to Eastern India, is a city of extreme contrasts. Sometimes described as the forward–thinking intellectual capital of India and noted for some wonderful landmarks of the British Raj, on the other hand, the city has been called ‘the soul of India’ and is one of the most populous urban areas on earth. Day 3 Kolkata to Dibrugarh – by air
Today leave your hotel and transfer back to Kolkata Airport in good time to catch the onward flight to Dibrugarh. On your arrival in Dibrugarh you will be met and transferred to the Heritage Chang Bungalow where you will stay overnight. Dibrugarh is the gateway to the ‘Hidden Land’ of Eastern Arunachal Pradesh and Northern Myanmar. (B/D)

Day 4 Dibrugarh to Wakro – 190 kms
This morning visit one of the many working tea estates before leaving Dibrugarh for the drive to Wakro. Stop en-route to make visits to Empong village, inhabited by the Khampti tribe, and a Buddhist Gompa close to Namsai which is considered to be the largest of its kind in North-eastern India. Continue onto Wakro, homeland of the Mishmi tribe, and the Traditional Mishmi Huts where you will stay for the next two nights. (B/L/D)

Day 5 Wakro
The centre of the Mishmi tribe, who are believed to be of Tibetan-Burmese origin, today explore the nearby villages of Kanjan, Pukhuri and Thomba which are the centres of the three main Mishmi groups – the Idus, Tarons and Kamans. The villages are colourful, artistic and welcoming providing a wonderful chance to experience this culture at first-hand. (B/L/D)

Day 6 Wakro to Roing – 160 kms
This morning, leave Wakro and drive to Roing stopping en-route to visit the pilgrimage site of Parasuramkund located on the Lohit River. Continue onto Roing and stay for two nights at the Mishmi Hill Camp. Set in the Himalayan foothills, Roing is surrounded by snow-capped peaks, rivers, valleys and an abundance of rich flora and fauna. Known for its thick forests, the district is home to the Idu Mishmi tribe and the Adi Padam tribe who live more in the lower plain areas. (B/L/D)

Day 7 Roing
Today visit the Idu Mishmi tribal villages of Abango, Kuruno and Abali. The Idu Mishmi tribe are best known for their bamboo timber forest homes, Reh Festival and beautiful dress – the majority of which is made from wood, cotton and sometimes nettle fibre. (B/L/D)

Day 8 Roing to Dibrugarh – 170kms
This morning, after breakfast, leave Roing and return by car to Dibrugarh and the Heritage Chang Bungalow where you will stay overnight. Later in the afternoon visit the weaving centre and local market. (B/L/D)

Day 9 Dibrugarh to Kaziranga National Park – 220kms
via Sivasagar

Today begin the drive to Kaziranga stopping en–route to visit the 13th Century Ahom monuments at Sivasagar. Afterwards continue onto Kaziranga National Park where you will stay for two nights at the Diphlu River Lodge. A World Heritage Site, Kaziranga National Park is located in a beautiful setting on the banks of the Brahmaputra River and covers an area of approximately 430 square kms. Predominately swamp and tall thickets of elephant grass, Kaziranga provides the ideal habitat for the Indian one–horned rhinoceros. This afternoon enjoy a jeep safari in the park. (B/L/D)

Day 10 Kaziranga National Park
Aside from the one-horned rhinos, Kaziranga is also home to over 1,000 wild buffalo, sambar, swamp deer, elephant, python and tiger. There is also a wide variety of birdlife as well as river otters and dolphins which are regularly seen. Today enjoy early morning and evening game safaris by jeep and on elephant back. (B/L/D)

Day 11 Kaziranga National Park to Guwahati – 210kms
Guwahati to Kolkata – by air

This morning leave Kaziranga and continue to Guwahati Airport in good time to catch the onward flight to Kolkata. On your arrival you will be met and transferred to the Oberoi Grand Hotel where you will stay for the next two nights. (B)

Day 12 Kolkata
Spend the day sightseeing with your guide in this fascinating city. Highlights include the colourful flower market and the nearby Howrah Bridge, the Maidan and St. John’s Church, the imposing white marble Victoria Memorial, the Indian Museum and Kali Temple at Kalighat which is also situated close to Mother Teresa’s Home for the Destitute. (B)

Day 13 Kolkata to Dubai
Dubai to London Heathrow

Today transfer back to Kolkata Airport to catch the Emirates flight to Dubai. On your arrival connect onto the onwards Emirates flight London Heathrow Terminal Three. (B)

Prices vary according to selected airlines, hotels and season, however, an indication to the current cost of this itinerary is from £3,350. All prices are per person and are based on a minimum of TWO persons travelling together and sharing a twin bedded room with meals as indicated.
