A WALK IN THE KUMAON HILLS

Day 1 London Heathrow to Delhi
Fly overnight with Virgin Atlantic non-stop to Delhi.

Day 2 Arrive Delhi
Arrive into Delhi where you will be met and transferred to the Claridges Hotel for your one night stay. The rest of your day will be at leisure. (N)

Day 3 Delhi to Corbett – 300kms
Early this morning leave by car for Corbett National Park arriving in the afternoon in time for a walk before sunset along the banks of the Ramganga River. Stay two nights at the Infinity Resort. Corbett Park is situated along the valley of the Ramganga River and is bordered by the Himalayan foothills to the north. Established in 1935, the park encompasses a varied terrain ranging from savannah grasslands to deciduous forests and supports a remarkable variety of wildlife such as elephants, bears, leopards and tigers. It is also noted for its Himalayan flora and an astonishing 600 species of birds. (B/D)

Day 4 Corbett
Take an early morning and evening safari from the Brijrani Gate. Viewing at Corbett is undertaken by elephant back and jeep safaris. Please carry your own binoculars and also take a warm fleece, hat and gloves with you, because you may find it cold when on safari before sunrise and after sunset. (B/L/D)

Day 5 Corbett to Kalmatia Sangam
After breakfast drive on via Naini Tal to Kalmatia Sangam Himalayan Resort which is nestled in the heart of the Kumaon Hills. The rest of the day will be at leisure. (B/L/D)

Day 6 Kalmatia Sangam
Today enjoy a 10kms walk to the Chittai Bell Temple – a place dedicated to Golu Devta, the God of Justice revered throughout the region. The walk passes through pine forests and there are excellent views of the valley and Himalayas. (B/L/D)

Day 7 Village Walk

Over the next three days enjoy your guided walk throughout this fascinating and beautiful region. The daily walks pass through many picturesque villages with their carved wooden decorations, terraced fields, waterfalls and pine, cedar, oak and rhododendron forests whilst varying from gentle strolls to slightly steep treks. Altitudes range from 1,450m to 2,250m. Throughout the walk you will gain a unique insight into the lives, traditions and culture of the people of a region framed by a backdrop of the magnificent high Himalayan peaks. (B/L/D)

Day 10 Return to Kalmatia Sangam
Today begin your return to Kalmatia Sangam taking time to stop en–route at the ancient temple complex at Jageshwar and the pre–historic remains at Lakhudiar. End your walk back at the Kalmatia Sangam Himalayan Resort where you will stay overnight. (B/L/D)

Day 11 Kalmatia Sangam to Corbett
Return to Corbett National Park for a further safari before sunset. Stay overnight at the Infinity Resort. (B/L/D)

Day 12 Corbett to Delhi – 300kms
After breakfast return by car to Delhi and stay for two nights at Claridges Hotel. (B)

Day 13 Delhi
Today tour Old and New Delhi with your local guide. Explore Old Delhi’s dense network of homes, markets, mosques and alleyways visiting Chandni Chowk by rickshaw, the Jama Masjid, Red Fort and Rajghat. Later visit Sir Edwin Lutyen’s New Delhi, inaugurated in 1931 and home to Rashtrapati Bhawan, the official residence of the Indian President, Rajpath and the imposing India Gate. (B)

Day 14 Delhi to London Heathrow
Depart Delhi on the Virgin Atlantic flight to London Heathrow

Please note: Corbett National Park is only open from the 15th November to the 15th June.

STAYING ON

Relax on the beaches of Goa or Kerala – both easily reached by air direct from Delhi. With a range of hotels to choose from both locations offer something for everyone and are an excellent way to end a tour. Time in Kerala could also be extended with a cruise on the backwaters.

A Guide to Price – A WALK IN THE KUMAON HILLS

Prices vary according to selected airlines, hotels and season, however, an indication to the current cost of this itinerary is from £3,250. All prices are per person and are based on a minimum of TWO persons travelling together and sharing a twin bedded room with meals as indicated. If you wish to travel alone we will be pleased to assist you with your arrangements and can provide a proposal on request.
