A JOURNEY THROUGH SOUTH INDIA
PRIVATE JOURNEY – 23 DAYS – From £4,300
Distinct to the north, exotic South India is a melting pot of cultures and religion. Leaving the pretty spice centre of Kochi behind, travel north to the wonderful coffee plantation retreat of Tranquil and the sandalwood city of Mysore. From here travel by train to coastal Tamil Nadu – a land of dusty plains and spectacular temple cities. Travel south from Chennai where the overwhelming temples at Mahabalipuram, Chidambaram, Tanjore, Swamimalai and Madurai stand in stark contrast to French Pondicherry and a private houseboat journey amid the palm trees of the Keralan backwaters.
SPICES & SANDALWOOD
PRIVATE JOURNEY – 17 DAYS – From £2,990
Traversing one of India's most beautiful regions, this itinerary is a memorable journey from princely Mysore, home of the grand City Palace, to the fascinating spice town of Kochi with its Portuguese, Dutch and British influences. Upon leaving Mysore, head to the hills and stay in a secluded plantation bungalow located on a working coffee plantation before driving to the picturesque Raj hill station of Ooty. From here travel to Kochi, then on to the Keralan backwaters for a special two-night cruise on a private houseboat, ending your journey by the beach under swaying palms.
DISCOVER SOUTH INDIA
PRIVATE JOURNEY – 19 DAYS – From £3,700
This classic journey through the warm, colourful and scented hinterland of South India fully encompasses the distinct states of Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu. The south of India is a true crossroads and this becomes apparent in not only the varied cultures that have left their physical marks but also in the many palaces and forts, churches and temples. This tour explores this vibrant region whilst also introducing the traveller to this cosmopolitan community.
HIDDEN TREASURES OF SOUTHERN INDIA
PRIVATE JOURNEY – 14 DAYS – From £3,200
Standing separate from the regular tourist–trail, the states of Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh are at the centre of a staggeringly diverse region few visit. A heady mix of culture and history, this novel itinerary represents a journey of rediscovery with visits to Mysore, spectacular Hampi and the exceptional Islamic architecture of Bijaipur, Gulbarga and Bidar. This is a land not yet developed for tourism and whilst this journey will take you off the beaten track, it ends with three nights in bustling Hyderabad at the luxurious Taj Falaknuma Palace.
RURAL IMAGES OF KERALA
PRIVATE JOURNEY – 15 DAYS – From £3,150
This tropical state is, for many, the essence of south India. A land of swaying palms and rustic wooden villages, famous trading cities and the idyllic backwaters, this is a relaxed itinerary exploring the rural heart of Kerala. Begin your journey in two homestays, the first at Olavipe, a century old Keralan mansion on the banks of the backwaters, and the second charming Philipkutty’s Farm. From here continue to the 1920s plantation bungalow of Serenity, relax by the sea, then board your own private houseboat before ending in the historic and colourful spice–market town of Kochi.
UNDISCOVERED KARNATAKA AND KERALA
PRIVATE JOURNEY – 14 DAYS – From £2,950
Based on an arrival into Bangalore, this tour takes the traveller inland from this increasingly modern metropolis all the way to the coast. Starting in the beautiful city of Mysore, with its spectacular City Palace, also visit nearby Somnathpur and Srirangapatnam before continuing onto the secluded plantation bungalow of Tranquil and The School Estate in Coorg. End the tour on the beach at the luxurious 16 cottage Neeleshwar Hermitage. From Neeleshwar continue by air to Mumbai where, after an overnight stay, you will fly back to the UK.
