BIRDS OF THE KUMAON HILLS
Day 1 Delhi to Sat Tal – 295kms
Early this morning leave by car for Sat Tal, known as the ‘Seven Lakes’,
which is situated in an attractive valley of oak and pine trees just 22kms
from Nainital. In the afternoon go birding with a guide and stay overnight
at the Pine Crest Hotel. (B/D)
Day 2 Sat Tal to Pangot – 70kms
Today enjoy a full day of birding around the area of Sat Tal Lake. Later leave
for the two hour drive to Pangot, a journey that takes you on a spectacular
mountain road up to the Kumaon Hills stopping along the way to look for birds.
There are almost 150 species that have been recorded at Pangot and the surrounding
area and on your arrival stay for four nights at the Jungle Lore Birding Lodge
15kms from Nainital. (B/L/D)
Day 3 Pangot
to
Day 5 Pangot
Over the next three day undertake birding around Pangot, Baggar, Timla Pani,
Cheena Peak and Nainital. There is also a trail that leads up to Cheena Peak
which offers wonderful views of the snow-clad Himalayan peaks. (B/L/D)
Day 6 Pangot to Majhkhali – 120kms
This morning it is an early start for the four hour drive, over mountain roads
and stops en-route for birding, to Majhkhali near Ranikhet. Spend the remainder
of the day birding and stay overnight at Trishul Lodge. (B/L/D)
Day 7 Majhkhali to Corbett Park – 90kms
Leave Majhkhali and drive to the world famous Corbett National Park stopping
along the way for birding. With over 600 species Corbett is noted for its
rich variety of bird life and on your arrival stay overnight at Tiger Camp
which is an ideal base for birding. (B/L/D)
Day 8 Corbett
Depart by jeep for viewing in the Dhikala area of Corbett National Park, which
is rich in birds and wildlife. Birding in the lower jungle track along the
Ramganga River is very rewarding for water birds such as river lapwings, waders
and other waterfowl. Stay for two nights at Dhikala Forest Lodge. (B/L/D)
Day 9 Corbett
This morning enjoy an elephant safari through the grasslands and dense forests
and spend time in a machan overlooking a water hole. In the afternoon visit
some of the best birding areas around Dhikala. (B/L/D)
Day 10 Corbett
Early this morning take a jeep safari from Dhikala before returning to Tiger
Camp on the perimeter of the park. This afternoon enjoy birding in the buffer
zone along the Kosi River near the camp. (B/L/D)
Day 11 Corbett to Delhi – 300kms
This morning there is time for further viewing along the banks of the Kosi
and after breakfast drive back to Delhi. (B)

A Guide to Price – BIRD WATCHING IN THE KUMAON HILLS
Prices vary according to selected airlines, hotels and season, however, an indication to the current cost of this itinerary is from £1,300. All prices are per person and are based on a minimum of TWO persons travelling together and sharing a twin bedded room with meals as indicated.
