LAND OF THE TIGER

Day 1 London Heathrow to Delhi
Fly with British Airways non-stop to Delhi.

Day 2 Delhi
Arrive Delhi just after midnight and transfer by car to the Taj Mahal Hotel. Later today tour Old and New Delhi with your local guide. Go by cycle rickshaw through the bazaars of Chandni Chowk to the Jama Masjid mosque. Visit the Red Fort and Rajghat, the site where Mahatma Gandhi was cremated. Admire the Qutb Minar minaret and then drive along the impressive avenues of Sir Edwin Lutyens’ New Delhi to see Rashtrapati Bhawan and India Gate. (B)

Day 3 Delhi to Jabalpur – by air
Jabalpur to Bandhavgarh – 170kms

Transfer by car to the airport for your early morning flight to Jabalpur. On your arrival you will be met and transferred by car to Bandhavgarh National Park where you will stay for four nights at the Samode Safari Lodge.

Situated in the heart of the Vindhyachal Mountains and covered by sal and mixed forest, valleys, meadows and grasslands, and punctuated by numerous small streams and hills that rise up to 1500 feet above the surrounding countryside, Bandhavgarh is a wildlife paradise. Noted for having one of the highest density of tigers, leopards, sloth bears, sambar, chital, barking deer, gaur and nilgai in India, the park, once the game reserve of the Maharajas of Rewa, also has a rich and varied birdlife with hornbills, crested serpent eagles, partridges, variable hawk eagles and parakeets among the many species to be seen. Day 7 Bandhavgarh to Kanha – 325kms
Today leave Bandhavgarh and travel by car through Kipling country to Kanha National Park which is considered to be one of the finest and most scenic National Parks in all of Asia. Lying in the Maikal Hills in a section of the Satpura Range, Kanha is in the heart of central India in forests of deciduous hardwoods, thickets of bamboo, colourful flowering trees and rolling grassland. The valleys that punctuate the park are primarily meadowlands with meandering streams which contrast to the surrounding lush woodlands.

Kanha is home to tiger, bison, leopard, jackal, wild boar, sambar, the Indian swamp deer and blackbucks together as well as a rich variety of birdlife with over 230 species now recorded. On your arrival stay for three nights at Shergarh which is situated 4kms from the southern entrance of Kanha at Mukki Gate.

Day 8 Kanha

Day 10 Kanha to Nagpur – 260kms
Nagpur to Mumbai – by air

Early morning enjoy a final jeep safari before travelling by car to Nagpur in good time to catch your late afternoon flight to Mumbai. On your arrival you will be met and transferred by car to the Taj Lands End Hotel where you will stay overnight. (B)

Day 11 Mumbai to London
Depart Mumbai on the British Airways flight to London Heathrow Terminal Five. (B)

STAYING ON

Extend your stay in the subcontinent with a visit to the world famous Taj Mahal in Agra or colourful Jaipur, the state capital of Rajasthan.

Relax on the beaches of Goa or Kerala – both easily reached by air direct from Delhi or Mumbai. With a range of hotels to choose from both locations offer something for everyone and are an excellent way to end a tour. Time in Kerala could also be extended with a cruise on the backwaters.

A Guide to Price – LAND OF THE TIGER

Prices vary according to selected airlines, hotels and season, however, an indication to the current cost of this itinerary is from £3,600. All prices are per person and are based on a minimum of TWO persons travelling together and sharing a twin bedded room with meals as indicated. If you wish to travel alone we will be pleased to assist you with your arrangements and can provide a proposal on request.
