This leisurely paced itinerary combines the many diverse facets of this absorbing and welcoming country. From the magnificent Imperial Cities of Rabat, Meknes, Fes and Marrakech, travel into the Atlas Mountains, snow capped in winter, to Ouarzazate set in rugged scenery and one of the last outposts before the Sahara. End your journey in Taroudant, known locally as the ‘grandmother of Marrakech’ this ancient ochre–red walled town was an important staging post on the caravan routes in the 15th and 16th centuries.

Starting in the medieval city of Fes, long considered the spiritual capital of Morocco, this is a journey through historic Morocco and the many landscapes that make this country special. The old city of Fes has a vast Medina with many historic buildings and an intricate network of narrow lanes. Visit the Roman ruins at Volubilis then traverse the Atlas Mountains to the Berber fortresses of Erfoud and the mighty Sahara Desert. Leaving here, drive north through rugged, spectacular scenery, past fortified Kasbahs vibrant Marrakech ending your journey by the coast in beautiful Essaouira.

This journey will take you to parts of the old caravan route where camel trains trod centuries before, finishing with extra time in bustling Marrakech where you can explore the maze of souks and enjoy bartering for some last minute shopping.

Marrakech typifies Morocco. Towering minarets break the skyline, colourful street performers vie for business and cavernous covered souks bustle with activity all accessed by an endless number of twisting, confusing lanes.
