THE KATHMANDU VALLEY

With a shared border and common heritage, a short visit to the Nepalese capital Kathmandu can easily be incorporated into any tour of northern India. One of the great cities of the subcontinent, Kathmandu is the gateway to the valley of the same name which is home to the historic capitals of Bhaktapur and Patan and the UNESCO protected temple of Changu Narayan. With the remainder of time spent within Kathmandu, highlights include 2,500 year old Swayambhunath Stupa, the Lamaist shrine of Bodhnath, old Kathmandu’s Durbar Square and the Shiva shrine of Pashupatinath.
