MOUNTAIN LODGES OF PERU - TREK TO MACCHU PICCHU

Day 1 Cusco to Salkantay Lodge (3,800 m / 4 hours)
This morning you will be met and transferred by car to the trek start point, stopping en-route at the Inca ruins of Tarawasi and the small mountain village of Mollepata. Today the trekking route will follow the ‘Camino Real’, or Royal Path, and is a perfect opportunity to acclimatise on this gentle day trek. On your arrival in Soraypampa continue to the Salkantay Lodge where you will stay for the next two nights. (L/D)

Day 2 Salkantay Lodge
Today is spent at leisure to acclimatise to the altitude. One option is a half-day hike to a glacial lake for a swim or just relax at the lodge taking advantage of the outdoor jacuzzi and other excellent facilities on offer. In the evening there will be a trek briefing in preparation for the next four days. (B/L/D)

Day 3 Salkantay Lodge to Wayra Lodge (3,850m / 5-7 hours)
This morning leave Soraypampa and begin the day hiking up the Rio Blanco valley and circling Humantay Peak. The highest point on the trek today is a pass at 4,600m with views at the top taking in the snow-capped peaks of the Vilcabamba Range and the south face of Mt. Salkantay. Descend towards the Wayra Lodge where you will stay overnight. (B/L/D)

Day 4 Wayra Lodge to Colpa Lodge (2,800m / 3-4 hours)
Following a leisurely breakfast, trek downhill skirting the Salkantay River and continue the rest of the day through increasingly verdant scenery. Later arrive at the Colpa Lodge which is beautifully located in an open promontory at the confluence of three rivers and has an outdoor hot tub which is perfect for relaxing in at the end of the day. Day 5 Colpa Lodge to Lucma Lodge (2,100m / 6-8 hours)
Today it is an early start following the Santa Teresa River Valley, through more populated rural areas, many coffee plantations, banana groves and orchards. After lunch you will be met and transferred by car to the beginning of the ‘Llactapata Inca Trail’. From the start of the trail it is a short climb to the Lucma Lodge where you will stay overnight. Later explore the small nearby village of Lucmabamba.

Day 6 Lucma Lodge to Aguas Calientes (1,900 m / 4-6 hours)
Today marks the last day of the trek heading for three hours towards the Llactapata pass. The view of Machu Picchu from the top of the pass is one that few tourists ever glimpse. After lunch, descend to the Aobamba River through lush bamboo forests to Aguas Calientes where you will stay overnight in a Hotel.

Day7 Machu Picchu to Cusco
This morning, after breakfast, head to the bus station for the 30min ride up to Machu Picchu. On your arrival enjoy a complete guided tour of the site followed by further time to enjoy the complex on your own. Afterwards, return by bus to Aguas Calientes for lunch before heading to the train station for the afternoon departure to Ollantaytambo. Here you will be met and transferred by car back to your hotel in Cusco.

STAYING ON

Marvel at the mystical Nazca Lines. Reached by air from Lima fly to Ica and board a light aircraft for the 45 minute flight over the Nazca Lines. One of Peru’s foremost archaeological treasures arguments abound as to meaning of these great designs.

Remote and untouched, the northern Amazon can be reached by air from Lima to Iquitos in northeast Peru. From here a speedboat will take you the 40kms along the Amazon to your base, Ceiba Tops, which is an excellent place from which to explore the beautiful primary rainforest reserve of this great river.

Adventure is close at hand with direct flights from Lima and Cusco to Puerto Maldonado – gateway to the southern Amazon. One of the worlds most remote and extraordinary rainforest environments travel by motorized canoe along the Madre de Dios River to stay at the charming and comfortable Reserva Amazonica. In the company of excellent guides explore the park, and its meandering rivers, by boat and on foot.

Prices vary according to selected airlines, hotels and season, however, an indication to the current cost of this itinerary is PRICE ON REQUEST. All prices are per person and are based on a minimum of TWO persons travelling together and sharing a twin bedded room with meals as indicated.
