Day 1 London to Tunis
Today fly non-stop with British Airways from London to Tunis. On your
arrival you will be met and transferred by car to the Residence Hotel
for two nights.
Day 2 Tunis
In the company of your guide start this morning by visiting the World
Heritage Medina, the Ezzitouna Mosque and Tourbet El Bey – the
Ottoman mausoleum of the Hessonite dynasty that ruled Tunisia for
more than two centuries. In the afternoon visit the Bardo Museum to
see the world class collection of Roman Mosaics before returning to
your hotel. (B)
Day 3 Tunis to Ain Draham – 320kms
Together with your guide travel south to visit the Roman site at Thuburbo
Majus. Abandoned after the Arab invasion in the 7th Century, Thuburbo
Majus was rediscovered in 1875 and is especially noted for its amphitheatre
and baths. Continue to Dougga, undoubtedly one of the best preserved
Roman towns in North Africa, and visit the temple set on the edge
of the Teboursouk Mountains. From Dougga travel north to the town of Ain Draham where you will stay overnight at the Hotel El Mouradi.

Day 4 Ain Draham to Kairouan – 290kms
This morning visit Bulla Regia, situated in the hills above the Medjerba
valley, and noted for its underground Roman townhouses and some excellent
mosaics. Afterwards drive onto Makhtar which includes a museum, a
small amphitheatre and the House of Venus. From here it’s onward
to the holy city of Kairouan where you will stay for two nights at
the Hotel La Kasbah. (B/D)
Day 5 Visit Sousse / Monastir & El Jem – 240kms
Today drive to Sousse to visit the Great Mosque, before travelling
along the coast to Monastir to see the Bourguiba Mosque and the Ribat,
a fortress and monastery built in the 8th Century and now home to
a museum of Islamic art. Drive to El Djem to visit North Africa's
most impressive amphitheatre and a museum of mosaics before returning
to the old walled city of Kairouan. (B/D)
Day 6 Kairouan to Sidi Bou Said – 170kms
The morning visit Kairouan’s religious and cultural monuments
with a chance to wander its traditional Medina. In the afternoon travel
north once more to the delightful hillside village of Sidi Bou Said
where you will stay for two nights at the Hotel Dar Said. (B)
Day 7 Sidi Bou Said
The morning visit nearby Carthage. The Phoenician city of Carthage
was founded, according to legend, in 814 BC. It gradually became the
most important of the Phoenician settlements along the North African
coast but was reduced to ruins by the conquering Romans in 146 BC.
A hundred years later Julius Caesar had the city rebuilt and it went
on to become second only to Rome in importance. Afternoon at leisure
in Sidi Bou Said. (B)
Day 8 Tunis to London
Today your morning is at leisure before returning to Tunis Airport
in the afternoon for the British Airways flight back to London. (B)

Prices vary according to selected airlines, hotels and season, however, an indication to the current cost of this itinerary is from £1,890. All prices are per person and are based on a minimum of TWO persons travelling together and sharing a twin bedded room with meals as indicated. If you wish to travel alone we will be pleased to assist you with your arrangements and can provide a proposal on request.
