CLASSICAL TURKEY

Day 1 London to Istanbul
Fly non-stop with British Airways to Istanbul. On arrival you will be met and transferred to the Ottoman Imperial Hotel for four nights.

Day 2 Istanbul

At leisure to relax and explore the city. During your stay you will receive a one-day private tour of the old city. Visit the renowned Topkapi Palace and the beautiful Hagia Sophia, see the Blue Mosque and enter the labyrinthine of the medieval Grand Bazaar. (B)

Day 5 Istanbul to Adatepe – 192 kms
This morning embark with your driver-guide on the fast car ferry across the Sea of Marmara to Bandirma. On arrival continue to the attractive village of Adatepe situated in the foothills of Mt Ida in the North Aegean and stay for two nights at the delightful Hunnap Han. Alternatively, leave Istanbul early this morning and take the longer and less attractive route, via Gallipoli to visit WW1 cemetery, Anzac Cove and military museum. Cross the Dardanelles by ferry and continue your journey via Troy to Adatepe. (B/L)

Day 6 Adatepe
Today relax and explore the area. The ancient altar of Zeus on a hilltop offers a panoramic view over the Gulf of Edremit. Visit Assos, one of Turkey’s hidden gems. Further afield you may wish to visit the ancient ruins of Troy. (B/D)

Day 7 Adatepe to Sirince – 297 kms
Drive south to Bergama, ancient Pergamon. Continue to Sirince a picturesque village in the hills near Ephesus. Stay for three nights at the delightful Nisanyan Evleri Hotel. (B/D)

Day 8 Sirince
Today visit the glorious city of Ephesus, one of the most important and famous ancient Greco-Roman sites. On leaving Ephesus you may wish to visit Mary’s House. A chapel on the slopes of Ala Dag, it is believed that the Virgin Mary spent her last days here. Finally, visit the Archaeological Museum in Selçuk. (B/D)

Day 9 Sirince
Visit Didyma, Miletus and Priene three important ancient sites. At Didyma see the Apollo Temple, then to Miletus, an important and cultural Ionian city. Finally Priene to see the ruins of the Temple of Athena and the theatre. (B/D)

Day 10 Sirince to Izmir – 64 kms
Izmir to Istanbul – by air

Istanbul to London
This morning drive to Izmir and fly to Istanbul to connect with the flight to London. (B)

Day 10 Sirince to Pamukkale
This morning drive to Aphrodisias considered to be one of the finest archaeological sites in Turkey. Also see the Temple of Aphrodite before continuing to Pamukkale with its spectacular travertine terraces and hot springs. In the afternoon visit the magnificent ruins of Hierapolis. Stay overnight at the Spa Colossae Thermal Hotel. (B)

Day 11 Pamukkale to Denizli
Denizli to Istanbul – by air

Day at leisure to relax. In the evening transfer to Denizli and fly to Istanbul to connect with the flight to London with British Airways. (B).
