    Turkey is home to some of the finest classical remains of the Mediterranean. This itinerary follows a well–worn ancient path from Istanbul south along Aegean coastline stopping to Ephesus which, for many, is considered the finest Roman remains in Turkey. The beginning of your journey is spent in Istanbul, the vibrant crossroads of Europe and Asia, where there is ample time to explore the many sites. From here follow the coast south through a region containing Homer’s Troy, the beautiful village of Assos and spectacularly sited Pergamon, ending in unrivalled Ephesus.

    Less visited, the East of Turkey hides many unexpected treasures both cultural and geographic. Begin on the Black Sea coast at Trabzon, before turning south and crossing the mountains and plains to Kars with its Russian influence. The countryside changes dramatically as you head south to Dogubayazit, Van, Diyarbakir, Mardin near Syria and Sanliurfa. The sights end fittingly on the summit of Mount Nemrut amongst mysterious statues before returning to Istanbul by air.

From here drive south–west to the religious city of Urfa – a riot of colourful bazaars and traditionally clothed pilgrims. End visiting the colossal pre–Roman statues of spectacularly sited Mount Nemrut.
