ISTANBUL
Picturesquely situated on the banks of the Bosphorus and with a stunning skyline of domes and minarets, Istanbul is one of the great cities of the world. For over 1,500 years the city has been the capital of some of the world’s greatest empires, first as Byzantium, then as Constantinople and finally as the capital of the Ottoman Empire. Straddling the continents of Europe and Asia vibrant Istanbul is a city of contrasts. This is most evident as you cross the Galata Bridge from the cosmopolitan suburb of Beyoglu, known for its stylish shops, restaurants, cafes and nightlife, yet, to Sultanahmet – old Istanbul and an eclectic mix of historic mosques, covered souks and striking Roman archeological remains. Istanbul is a city that never fails to capture the imagination, a melting pot of cultures and the natural stepping stone between East and West.
