CRUISING THE MIGHTY MEKONG

Day 1 London Heathrow to Bangkok
Fly with British Airways non-stop to Bangkok.

Day 2 Bangkok to Ho Chi Minh City - by air
Arrive into Bangkok in the afternoon and connect on to your flight to Ho Chi Minh City where you will stay at the Park Hyatt Saigon Hotel for two nights. (N)

Day 3 Ho Chi Minh City
Today, after breakfast, leave your hotel and visit the main sights of the city. In the afternoon drive out of Ho Chi Minh to see either the famous Chu Chi Tunnels or the colourful Cao Dai Great Temple at Tay Ninh. (B)

Day 4 Cruise to Cai Be
This morning register at the Renaissance Riverside Hotel before transferring by coach to My Tho in good time to board the RV Mekong Pandaw. With thirty-five comfortable cabins, a spacious dining room, bar and large sun deck area the RV Mekong Pandaw is an excellent base from which to cruise the Mekong River. Later take a traditional junk to explore the evergreen islands and former Imperial residence, An Kiet House. (B/L/D)

Day 5 Cruise to Chau Doc
This morning take a boat trip around the bustling floating market at Cai Be and walk ashore to see some interesting French colonial buildings. Afterwards return to the ship and cruise to Vinh Long, home to a Bonsai Garden and fruit farm, before a visit to a brick and pottery factory. The remainder of the day is spent cruising the Mekong Delta. (B/L/D)

Day 6 Cruise towards Phnom Penh
From the main Mekong channel at Tan Chau travel down the canals and backwaters by local ferry boat to Chau Doc. From here explore by trishaw the many fine French-colonial buildings and bustling market that characterizes this town. Later return to the ship and continue to the Cambodian border throughout the evening towards Phnom Penh. (B/L/D)

Day 7 Phnom Penh
Today is spent sightseeing in the city. Places of interest include the Royal Palace, built in 1866 by the French, the Silver Pagoda and the National Museum which houses a good collection of Khymer archaeological, religious and artistic artefacts from the 4th to 13th Centuries. There is also an optional afternoon excursion to the Killing Fields and Toul Sleng Museum. (B/L/D)

Day 8 Cruise to Kampong Cham
Today sail to Chong Koh and take time to walk around this typical Khmer village before sailing onto Kampong Cham. (B/L/D)

Day 9 Cruise towards Phnom Penh
This morning undertake a shore excursion by coach to see the 12th Century temple of Wat Nokor and the holy mountains of Phnom Pros and Phnom Srei. Later travel by speedboat up river to the hilltop temple of Wat Hanchey. Later depart Kampong Cham and cruise downstream towards Phnom Penh. (B/L/D)

Day 10 Cruise to Tonle Lake
Sail upriver towards Tonle Lake and in the afternoon explore on foot the traditional Khmer river town of Kampong Chhanan. In the afternoon moor in the mouth of the Tonle River close to Tonle Lake. (B/L/D)

Day 11 Tonle Lake to Siem Reap
End the cruise this morning at the edge of Tonle Lake and transfer to Siem Reap where you will stay at the Pansea La Residence d’Angkor Hotel for the next three nights. Depending on the water level of the lake either cross the Tonle Lake by speedboat or disembark at Prek Dom and continue around the lake by coach to Siem Reap. (B)

Day 12 Siem Reap

Day 13 Siem Reap

Over the next two days visit the Angkor Wat temple complex the ancient capital of the Khmer empire. One of the most spectacular and revered religious monuments ever built, the complex has mesmerised generations of explorers and is the spiritual and cultural heart of Cambodia. (B)

Day 14 Siem Reap to Bangkok
Bangkok to London Heathrow

This morning you are at leisure before flying back to Bangkok where you will connect onto the British Airways flight to London. (B)

Day 15 Arrive London
Arrive into London Heathrow in the early hours of the morning.

A Guide to Price – CRUISING THE MIGHTY MEKONG

Prices vary according to selected airlines, hotels and season, however, an indication to the current cost of this itinerary is from £4,500. All prices are per person and are based on a minimum of TWO persons travelling together and sharing a twin bedded room with meals as indicated. If you wish to travel alone we will be pleased to assist you with your arrangements and can provide a proposal on request.
