Day 1 Ho Chi Minh City to Sa Dec
via Cai Be
Today leave Ho Chi Minh and head to the upper Mekong Delta, close to Vietnam’s border with Cambodia. Join the Song Xanh, a traditional sampan, and your base for the next two nights. Later today visit the colourful floating markets at Cai Be, a local mandarin house dating from 1890 and also a chance to witness local home workshops where rice paste, coconut sweets and other specialties are traditionally made. After lunch cruise to Sa Dec along the Tien Giang River – one of the main tributaries of the Mekong River – and through quiet backwaters dotted with fruit plantations, tiny river villages and local temples. End the day at Sa Dec, a charming town of narrow streets, French architecture and numerous narrow canals. Overnight will be spent onboard the Song Xanh. (L/D)
Day 2 Sa Dec to Cho Moi
via Long Xuyen
This morning, after breakfast, leave Sa Dec and cruise upstream to Long Xuyen – a peaceful, and traditional, provincial Mekong town – passing numerous similar sampans transporting sand, rice, fruits, vegetables and fish. After lunch continue onto Cu Lao Ong, known as Tiger Island, to visit Ton Duc Thang Museum, before continuing to Cho Moi. There will be an opportunity make stops en-route to explore the beautiful countryside and local villages. Tonight, experience a traditional dinner in the company of a local family. Overnight will be spent onboard the Song Xanh. (B/L/D)
Day 3 Cho Moi to Ho Chi Minh City
via Chau Doc
After breakfast cruise to Chau Doc. Explore a narrow tributary of the Mekong where and observe the industrious local boat factories, bamboo basket makers, palm weavers and net makers. There are also some beautiful old Vietnamese temples that date from late 19th Century. Reach Chau Doc by late morning where you will disembark and return to Ho Chi Minh City by car. (B)

Prices vary according to selected airlines, hotels and season, however, an indication to the current cost of this itinerary is from £450. All prices are per person and are based on a minimum of TWO persons travelling together and sharing a twin bedded room with meals as indicated.
