ESSENCE OF ARMENIA
Day 1 London to Yerevan
Depart London Heathrow on BMI flight (Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and
Sunday only) overnight to Yerevan.
Day 2 Arrive Yerevan
Arrive Yerevan in the morning, where you will be met and transferred
to the Aviatrans Hotel (room reserved from the previous night) for
three nights. Today visit the State History Museum (closed Mondays),
National Art Gallery which is home to many fine European works, the
Matenadaran manuscript collection and the Vernissage crafts market. (B/D)
Day 3 Yerevan
Today attend a sung service at Echmiadzin – centre of the Armenian
Church – which is set against marvellous views of Mount Ararat and
Mount Aragats. (B/D)
Day 4 Yerevan to Sisian – 200 kms
Today drive through the plains below Ararat to visit Khor Virap
Monastery, then proceed deeper into the mountains visiting an
intricately carved monastery of Noravank. Continue on to explore
Tatev Monastery, a UNESCO site, and one which provides a spectacular
view of mountain ranges. Drive down through the valley to see the
Devil’s Bridge before continuing onto Sisian where you will stay
overnight at the Dina Hotel. (B/L/D)
Day 5 Sisian to Lake Sevan – 230 kms
This morning visit Karahunj which, much like Stone Henge, is
considered to be some form of prehistoric observatory. Continue
onto the 14th Century Selim caravanserai that sits astride the Silk
Road before driving onto Lake Sevan where you will stay overnight
at the Blue Sevan Hotel. (B/L/D)
Day 6 Lake Sevan to Yerevan – 75 kms
This morning drive around the lake taking in two medieval churches.
Then continue to the unique medieval monastery of Geghard which is
included in the list of UNESCO world heritage sites. Some chambers
of the monastery were carved out of solid rock and possess exceptional
acoustics. Drive towards Garni village where you will visit a pagan
temple from the 1st century AD – the only one remaining from the
pre-Christian period in Armenia. The temple is located on a triangular
cape overlooking the deep canyon of Garni. You will then have the
chance to hike (one and a half hours) through a canyon famous for its
unique rock formations. Lunch will be a home-made meal served in the
orchard of a private house in Garni. Return to Yerevan and the Aviatrans
Hotel. (B/L)
Day 7 Yerevan
In the morning drive up the slopes of Aragats – the highest mountain
in Armenia. Here at an altitude of 2300m visit Amberd medieval castle
which once served as a summer residence for Armenian noblemen. Return
to Yerevan for an afternoon. At leisure. Dinner at a traditional
Armenian restaurant with live folk music. (B/D)
Day 8 Yerevan to London
Morning transfer to Yerevan airport for the BMI flight (Monday,
Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday only) to London, arriving London
Heathrow in the afternoon local time. (B)

Prices vary according to selected airlines, hotels and season, however, an indication to the current cost of this itinerary is from £1,850.00. All prices are per person and are based on a minimum of TWO persons travelling together and sharing a twin bedded room with meals as indicated. If you wish to travel alone we will be pleased to assist you with your arrangements and can provide a proposal on request.
