ESSENCE OF TUNISIA
Day 1 London to Tunis
Depart London Gatwick on the British Airways flight to Tunis, where you will be met and transferred to the Tunisia Palace Hotel for two nights.
Day 2 Tunis
In the company of your guide start this morning by visiting the World Heritage Medina, the Ezzitouna Mosque and Tourbet El Bey – the Ottoman mausoleum of the Hessonite dynasty that ruled Tunisia for more than two centuries. In the afternoon visit the Bardo Museum to see the world class collection of Roman Mosaics before returning to your hotel. (B)
Day 3 Tunis to Port El Kantaoui – 138 kms
After breakfast head south along the coast to Monastir to see the Bourguiba Mosque and the Ribat, a fortress and monastery built in the 8th Century and now home to a museum of Islamic art. Continue to Sousse to visit the Great Mosque, before arriving at the pleasant resort town of Port El Kantaoui on the coast. Stay two nights at the Kanta Hotel. (B)
Day 4 Port El Kantaoui
In the morning drive to the old walled holy city of Kairouan and visit Kairouan’s religious and cultural monuments with a chance to wander its traditional Medina. Continue to El Djem to visit North Africa’s most impressive amphitheatre and a museum of mosaics. (B)
Day 5 Port El Kantaoui to Gammarth – 182 kms
In the afternoon travel north once more via Thuburbo Majus, an important Roman market town, to Gammarth near Tunis, where you will stay for two nights at the El Mouradi Hotel. (B)
Day 6 Gammarth
The morning visit nearby Carthage. The Phoenician city of Carthage was founded, according to legend, in 814 BC. It gradually became the most important of the Phoenician settlements along the North African coast but was reduced to ruins by the conquering Romans in 146 BC. A hundred years later Julius Caesar had the city rebuilt and it went on to become second only to Rome in importance. In the afternoon visit the seaside village of Sidi Bou Said. (B)
Day 7 Gammarth to Tunis – 14 kms
Tunis to London
Morning at leisure. Afternoon drive to Tunis airport for the British Airways flight to London, arriving London Heathrow in the evening local time. (B)

Prices vary according to selected airlines, hotels and season, however, an indication to the current cost of this itinerary is from £1,430.00. All prices are per person and are based on a minimum of TWO persons travelling together and sharing a twin bedded room with meals as indicated.
