Vivenda Dos Palhacos – Goa
A charming Portuguese home converted into a new six-bedroom hotel by Simon Hayward – heir to an old brewing family – and his sister Charlotte, Vivenda Dos Palhacos is set in peaceful gardens with a pool. Rooms exude style with their use of local hardwood, simple colours and textiles, and the village of Majorda with its 25km sandy beach – said to be one of the finest in Goa - is just a 15 minute walk away. On return Simon might greet you with the famous Hayward’s 5000 beer.

Barefoot Eco Resort – Andaman Islands, India
We hate to even say this out loud, but the Andaman Islands are probably India’s best-kept secret – something Time Magazine obviously spotted when it voted it as having Asia’s best beach.

Barefoot is a delightful eco resort set among rainforest and tropical fruit trees behind a two kilometre stretch of white sand – known as Beach 7 – on Havelock Island. Accommodation is in a small collection of cottages and villas largely constructed from local materials and decorated with teakwood furniture. There is a full programme of activities from nature walks, fishing and kayaking to yoga, scuba diving and bathing with the elephants – or alternatively you can simply relax. Both of these properties can be included in Pettitts’ extensive India programme.
