Steven Pettitt

After leaving school my ambition then, as now, was to travel and discover the world. In the 70’s I set off backpacking through Europe and North Africa and in 1979 I had the opportunity to visit India. Since then I have travelled there almost 40 times and explored the wider subcontinent including Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. Although the subcontinent is my first love, other travel highlights include France, Italy, some of the smaller Greek Islands, Turkey, Egypt, Algeria, Morocco, Vietnam and China.

I have always had a passion for travel and as a young girl dreamed of visiting far flung places. I didn’t take my first foreign holiday until I was 21, however I have certainly made up for lost time! I have extensively travelled throughout the USA including New England and California, visited Switzerland, Norway, Spain, Greece and Latvia, plus enjoyed holidays to both the Caribbean and Vietnam.

I love to travel and I have been lucky enough to visit some of the world’s most amazing destinations with some of my favourites being Sri Lanka, Australia, Lapland and the Caribbean. Travelling plays an important part in my family life and we love to spend time together as a family creating memories whilst on holiday. In the future, I’d love to take my son and husband to Sri Lanka to show them the sights and culture of this diverse and beautiful country.

Despite the fact that I am fast approaching 40 years in travel, I like to think of myself as the ‘oldest trainee’ as I am always learning something new. My favourite destinations from travels past are Australia, Kenya & Tanzania, Egypt and India. I also love cruising – waking up at a different location each day without having to pack and unpack my case – perfect! Travel, whether from personal experience and booking it, certainly widens my horizons.

I love the journey just as much as the destination - from taking trains all over India, bumping over the Guyanese savannah, to driving a campervan across Australia, as it gives plenty of opportunities to meet people and see daily life. The natural world inspires me and recent travels in South and Central America merely whet my appetite to explore more of this vast, varied continent!

I have always loved travel. When I was 18, I went backpacking around India and Nepal and on my return I started working for Pettitts Travel, which was back in 1998! Over the years, I travelled extensively, slowly working my way through the Pettitts brochure including destinations such as Sri Lanka, the Maldives and Southeast Asia. Next up I’d love to trek the Himalayas or tour Patagonia.

I do love to travel and have been lucky enough to be able to travel to some amazing places from Europe to the USA and Caribbean including my favourite island, Grenada. You can usually find me looking at different places to visit and adding to my ever-growing bucket list. Next up I’d like to drive Route 66 or soak up the sun and culture in Cuba.

I achieved a First-Class Honours degree in International Tourism Management, and I love everything about travel! The best and most memorable travel experience has been visiting an active Geyser during my trip to Iceland in 2018. My dream trip would be visiting Kyoto in Japan!

My travels have taken me to some wonderful places over the years from my first package holiday abroad to Cyprus over 20 years ago to more recent and intrepid travels around India, South Africa, Thailand and the USA. I can often be found either thumbing through a guidebook or scrolling through Instagram for future travel inspiration where currently Vietnam and Argentina are at the top of my future travel list.

From a young age I have been fortunate to have had the opportunity to travel to lots of different countries all around the world. I have spent a lot of time in India, a country I am particularly fond of, but also have a soft spot for Asia as a whole. More recently, visits to South Africa and Argentina have opened new horizons and I am looking forward to exploring both continents more over the coming years.

Having been inspired by my parents from a young age, I have always loved to travel and explore exciting new places, cultures and cuisines. I have been fortunate enough to extensively visit Southeast Asia, Central America, Europe and New Zealand, as well as living and working in both Mexico and Australia. Some favourite experiences so far include safari sundowners in South Africa, glacier hiking in New Zealand and snorkelling with sharks in Belize.
