How many years have you worked in travel and how did you get into the industry?
I have worked in the travel industry ever since leaving college. After leaving school I took a Travel and Tourism course and then got my first job at Lunn Poly aged 18. I have been in the industry ever since and joined Pettitts Travel in 2002!
What do you do outside of travelling or whilst travelling?
My hobby is travelling but I also like to visit nice restaurants and enjoy fine wines.
How many countries have you visited to date?
I would say about 30 countries. I have been lucky to travel through work and on my own trips.
What are your top three destination recommendations?
I have been to Thailand recently and really enjoyed experiencing the nature, wildlife, beaches and city of this wonderful country. We visited Bangkok, Khao Lak and Elephant Hills in Khao Sok National Park where we participated in a two-night jungle and lake camp safari. I also visited California a few years ago and loved driving down Highway 1 between San Francisco and LA. Croatia is also a special place for me, I have been with my family a few times and have stayed in both Dubrovnik and Torgeir where we loved the small coves in the area as well as the lovely restaurants that overlook the bay.
What do you listen or read/interest to when you’re travelling?
Just whatever is on my kindle at the time.
Can you speak any other languages?
No, I am afraid not.
Where is next on your wish list and why?
There are so many places on my wish list, but I would love to drive Route 66 at some point as well as visit Vietnam and Cambodia. I have been to Sri Lanka and the Maldives, but it was years ago and with work, so I would like to go back with my husband and son.
Any disaster stories/near misses on your travels?
A few near missed flights and flights cancelled other than that I have been pretty lucky. I am sure the next time I travel it will go wrong now!
Any words of wisdom or to tips for travellers?
Take washing powder with you, just in case!
