Hannah's Las Vegas Highlights

Lucie Watt

Nevada’s vibrant city of Las Vegas is America’s party capital; renowned for its dazzling nightlife, world-class entertainment, lavish-themed hotels and 24-hour casinos. We’ve got together with our USA travel specialist, Hannah, to put together her top five 'not to be missed' highlights of Las Vegas!

The Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas sign in Las Vegas, Nevada

Helicopter Tour of the Las Vegas Strip by Night

The dazzling lights of the ‘Strip’ are synonymous with Las Vegas and the best way to experience this phenomenal light spectacle is from the sky! A helicopter tour over Las Vegas offers incredible panoramic views. This was by far my favourite experience whilst I was in Las Vegas and certainly one for those with a head for heights! If you are staying in a hotel on the Strip, then transfers to and from the helicopter terminal are usually included. The tour itself lasts approximately 15-20 minutes, which is plenty of time to soar above the towering resorts and the historic Fremont Street in downtown Las Vegas.

Zip lining through Bootleg Canyon

Just a half hour drive from Las Vegas takes you to the arid terrain of Boot Leg Canyon. Here you can experience the exhilaration of a mega zip lining course, suspended over the Mojave Desert. This exciting activity is especially great for groups, away from the built-up city, to enjoy the beautiful canyon landscape. Friendly and knowledgeable instructors make you feel at ease, so, if like me you’re not the most natural zip liner, rest assured you’re in safe hands! This experience lasts around three hours and involves a short hike at the beginning to reach the start

Fremont Street

Fremont Street in downtown Las Vegas is home to the original casinos, which include the Golden Nugget Hotel & Casino and the 4 Queens; offering visitors a vintage experience. I didn’t know what to expect when I visited Fremont Street, but I absolutely loved it and would highly recommend it! Downtown Las Vegas has a fantastic selection of bars and restaurants from where you can enjoy the street performers. The ‘Heart Attack Grill’ is well worth a visit and, for those who have dreamed of getting up close to a shark, the Golden Nugget has a huge tank of sharks which you can admire from a water slide! Fremont Street is also famed for its impressive zip line which runs the full length of the street, which I will be trying out when I return in September!

Bellagio Fountains

The Fountains of Bellagio offer a spectacular free water show at regular intervals, right in front of the Bellagio Hotel. Thousands of fountains perform an enchanting display, synchronised with classical music and it is free for all to enjoy! I’ve seen the Bellagio’s Fountain View rooms and they are perfect for anyone celebrating a special occasion or just wanting to treat themselves.

Cirque Du Soleil

Cirque Du Soleil is one of the best shows I’ve seen and a fantastic way to start a big night out on the Las Vegas strip. I saw the Cirque Du Soleil perform at the Bellagio Hotel and I have to say, I really didn’t know what to expect! The performance was slightly unusual and very intriguing. The first class performances are based on circus styles from around the world, each with their own storyline.

If you like the bright lights, have a sense of adventure and want to experience something quite out of the ordinary, then Las Vegas is the place for you! I’m looking forward to going back in September to discover more about this fascinating place.
