Where to Head on Holiday in November

Lauren Curd

Winter has well and truly begun here in the UK and with Christmas just around the corner; November is the perfect time to get away from the wind and rain with a great value escape. Whether you fancy a few days exploring a fascinating city, a cultural tour or a week or two of rest and relaxation on an exotic beach, we’ve hand-picked our recommended destinations for holidays in November.

Burma

The month of November provides idyllic conditions for taking a tour of Burma, with the rainy season now a distant memory. This mystical land remains relatively undiscovered and unspoilt by mass tourism and retains the unique charm of Asia from days gone by. See the temples in Bagan, explore the tranquil villages around Inle Lake and immerse yourself in the famous cities of Mandalay and Rangoon.

Barbados

The Caribbean season is just beginning in November, as the stormy weather passes and dry, sunny days are in abundance. Get away to Barbados before the Christmas crowds arrive and take advantage of fantastic airfares and hotel rates – your holiday will cost you half of what it would over the festive season. This sophisticated island boasts luxurious hotels, sun-drenched beaches, vibrant culture and a laid-back vibe, perfect for a completely chilled out getaway.

Vietnam

The white sand beaches of Vietnam aren’t as crowded as neighbouring Thailand at this time of year,  and with blue skies and sunshine in the far south of the country in November; the beach resorts of Phu Quoc, Phan Thiet and Mui Ne provide the ideal base for a few days’ R+R in South East Asia. The north experiences dry, cool weather in November – the perfect weather for sightseeing in Hanoi and a junk boat cruise around Halong Bay’s limestone islands.

Budapest

Hungary’s capital opens its celebrated Christmas Market in Vorosmarty Square on 15 November and offers an unforgettable festive city break at this time of year. Admire the art nouveau buildings that decorate the banks of the River Danube, separating the western city of Buda and the eastern city of Pest. Take a dip in one of the city’s ornate thermal baths and let your stresses float away before spending a night in Budapest’s famous ‘ruin’ bars.

South Africa

It’s the start of summer in South Africa and the weather is fabulous! November sees many events taking place in the vibrant city of Cape Town. Take a scenic drive along the Garden Route, sample fabulous wine in the winelands, spot the Big 5 on safari or unwind on the inviting beaches in the Western Cape. South Africa is a dream holiday destination for wildlife enthusiasts and lovers of the great outdoors.
