As we enter the new year, we have compiled our favourite destinations and experiences for the year ahead and hope these inspire you to travel in 2025 and beyond.

A big bucket list hit, Japan truly offers something for everyone with its futuristic cities, ancient temples and cultural traditions. Capital Tokyo is one of Asia’s great cities, a pulsating metropolis of shrines, ultramodern architecture, museums and galleries whilst cultured Kyoto is home to an astonishing seventeen UNESCO World Heritage Sights. The Japanese Alps combine traditional towns with walking, scenery and wildlife, Hakone is the gateway to Mt Fuji and Osaka is home to the country’s best food scene. From sushi making and sake sipping to sumo tournaments and samurai lessons, this gracious and traditional country boasts a myriad of authentic and immersive experiences that can easily be incorporated into a tailor-made Japan holiday.

Rural and largely undeveloped, life here carries on much as it did hundreds of years ago. Laos is authentic Southeast Asia, unblemished, refined, honest and welcoming, a country that is home to cities of extraordinary majesty, secluded untouched villages of great charm, enigmatic ancient remains and glorious natural scenery. One of our favourite Laos tours for 2025 is Undiscovered Laos, an intrepid and unique itinerary that truly uncovers the culture, wildlife and landscapes in an authentic way with experiences ranging from trekking in Luang Namtha to canoeing through the Kiat Ngong Wetlands. Laos also naturally combines with its neighbouring countries of Cambodia, Vietnam and Thailand, or all three for an all-encompassing journey through Indochina.

There are few places on earth that offer such a wide range of experiences in so small an area. Sri Lanka also caters to everyone – from families looking for an exciting summer holiday to intrepid travellers wishing to ‘get off the beaten track’. The island is home to some of the finest Buddhist sites of the wider subcontinent and in the Cultural Triangle there are a number of UNESCO World Heritage Sites to explore including Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa, Sigiriya and Dambulla. The island is also blessed with an astonishing diversity of animal and birdlife including wild elephant, leopard, deer and crocodile. The tea hills offer relaxation and excellent walking whilst there are beaches on the south and north eastern coasts – the latter at their best between May and September.

The beautiful landscapes and rich heritage of Mongolia has captured the heart of adventurous travellers for decades. Whilst it has traditionally been known as an intrepid and little-visited destination, the Mongolian tourist board has set its sights on attracting one million visitors by the end of 2025. July is the perfect month to visit Mongolia where travellers can immerse themselves in the annual Naadam Festival, a colourful celebration of wrestling, horse racing and archery. Other highlights for 2025 include saddling up and riding into the mountains on a Mongolian horse, sampling traditional steamed dumplings prepared by a nomad family in the steppes and enjoying local bands that play during summer music evenings in Ulaanbaatar.

Epicentre of the Roman Empire and birthplace of the Renaissance, Italy is a timeless destination and a melting pot of art, history, culture and gastronomy. To the north, relax on the stunning shores of Lake Garda or Como, visit the rolling vineyards of Langhe or enjoy an opera break in Verona. To the south, take a boat trip down the Amalfi Coast, discover quaint colourful villages in Sicily or explore the picturesque beaches of Puglia. Inland you will find spectacular Tuscany with its medieval towns and verdant green countryside, the hidden gem of Umbria and Emilia-Romagna's famous ‘Food Valley’. Renowned for its spectacular scenery, vibrant cities, wildlife and national parks, Canada is a holiday destination that offers something for everyone. May to October is a wonderful time to visit Canada with great weather and excellent wildlife viewing. Western Canada is home to some of the continent's finest national parks including Banff and Jasper, including the Rockies Mountain’s snowy peaks, turquoise lakes and superb wildlife with some of the world’s best bear watching experiences off Vancouver Island. Alternatively, Canada’s Atlantic Coast is one to watch this year. Dotted with quaint fishing villages, Canada’s maritime provinces offers some of the country’s warmest hospitality, finest seafood and historic towns as well as picturesque scenery and excellent whale watching.

Unhurried and exploratory, river cruising offers the unique chance to experience a country from a different point of view. Get up close to rural communities and visit special or inaccessible places whilst navigating historic waterways in a comfortable and relaxed environment. Our river cruise highlights for 2025 include the remote Red River in northern Vietnam where you can explore the region’s spectacular scenery or India’s mighty Brahmaputra River which traverses the country’s remote northeast. Alternatively, follow a classic route along the mighty Mekong between Cambodia and Vietnam or cruise the holy Ganges River between Kolkata and Varanasi.

From awe-inspiring temple complexes and impressive national parks to timeless rural communities and spectacular abandoned cities, India is a rich panorama of life untouched by the passing of time. For those heading to India for the first time, there is no better introduction than the Golden Triangle of Delhi, Agra and Jaipur which can be extended to include other areas of Rajasthan. For the return traveller there are a whole host of different regions to discover but particular favourites of ours for 2025 include the exceptional historical sites of Karnataka and the Deccan Plateau, the temple cities of Tamil Nadu and the idyllic Andaman Islands, Gujarat with its rich textile and handicraft culture, and the northeast regions of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and intrepid Nagaland.

Experience an unforgettable opera performance in one of Europe’s greatest cities on one of our revered opera breaks. Whether you are looking to experience the woe of Verdi’s 'La Traviata', the emotion of Puccini’s 'La Boheme' or the sultry and magnificent ‘Carmen’, you are sure to be captivated by the poetic drama and raw passion during an evening at the opera. From the ancient Arena di Verona and Milan’s impressive Teatro alla Scala to Prague’s stately National Theatre and Berlin’s three major opera houses, Europe boasts many historic venues housing legendary performers. Located at the southernmost tip of the great African continent, South Africa is a melting pot of vibrant cultures, cosmopolitan cities, fabulous food and some of the world’s finest wildlife experiences. The Western Cape is one of the country’s most enticing regions home to the picturesque vineyards of Franschhoek and Stellenbosch, a mountainous interior and stunning city of Cape Town whose highlights include Table Mountain, V&A Waterfront, Robben Island and the penguins of Boulders Beach. South Africa is also home to the Garden Route, one of the world’s most beautiful coastlines which is a great option for a self-drive holiday. Those interested in history can visit the historic battlefield sites in KwaZulu Natal whilst wildlife enthusiasts can search for the ‘Big 5’ at one of the many outstanding national parks including Kruger or the iSimangaliso wetlands.

With both British Airways and EasyJet offering seasonal direct flights to Tbilisi this year, Georgia is one of our favourite destinations for 2025. Nestled in the heart of the Caucasus Mountains, Georgia has a fascinating historical and cultural heritage. As one of the world's oldest Christian nations, Georgia retains much of its traditional charm and character as well as being extremely beautiful. Explore the alluring alleyways and colourful homes of the ancient capital Tbilisi as well as the rolling vineyards and wineries surrounding Telavi, the birthplace of wine. Visit historic Akhaltsikhe with its Ottoman and Russian influences and discover important religious sites including the sacred Svetitskhoveli Cathedral and Alaverdi Monastery. For a longer trip that incorporates more of the Caucasus, combine Georgia with neighbouring Armenia.

Southwest USA is our favourite American region for 2025 with its rugged red-rock canyons, Wild West legends and inviting Navajo culture. Encompassing Arizona, Utah, Nevada and New Mexico, the Southwest is home to some of the country’s greatest national parks including Zion, Bryce Canyon, Monument Valley and Grand Canyon. Those who love adventure and the great outdoors can enjoy hiking, cycling and rafting through the ethereal canyons, towering crimson monoliths and orange desert plateaus. Culturally the Southwest is a melting pot of Hispanic, Apache, Navajo, Pueblo and modern-day culture creating one of the country’s most interesting and multicultural regions.
