Love them or hate them, the long school summer holidays are looming on the horizon. For many parents, this is the time of year when they are aimlessly trawling through holiday websites and brochures, looking for a holiday which ticks all the boxes. Is there enough there to keep the kids entertained? Can the adults switch off? Will my child(ren) enjoy it? Is this all possible within my budget? Is there a child-free spa with all-inclusive cocktails? Ok…the last one is wishful thinking on behalf of all mums…but you catch our drift!
Planning a family holiday can be stressful. You do need to keep an eye on your budget, but you also want to make sure everyone is provided for. We suggest getting the whole family involved in deciding what type of holiday you’re after – beach, countryside, wildlife, adventure or a mix of them all!
Where should you go?
You also need to consider where you want to go. In the main, Europe in August is peak holiday season so it’s likely to be hot and busy. With countries such as Turkey, Tunisia and Egypt proving less popular, other European resorts are filling up fast and the cost is reflecting this trend. Destinations further afield such as Sri Lanka (which is very family-friendly) is good value at this time of year as it is their low season. Hotels are cheaper and the beaches far less crowded, although you may have to accept a few short, sharp showers!
