March – May
Whilst March marks the start of spring, Armenia remains cool and unpredictable with frequent rain showers. By April visitors can expect pleasant weather with temperatures ranging from 10°C to 20°C, and as you head into May, it becomes drier and warmer. During these later spring months, the Armenian landscapes are bursting with wildflowers and verdant greenery. April and May are a great time to explore the country’s natural beauty and go hiking in the mountains such as Dilijan National Park. Armenia is the oldest Christian country in the world and Easter is a particularly special time to visit and pay homage to this non-secular event.
June – August
June is a wonderful time to travel to Armenia where days tend to be long and balmy with blue skies and warm temperatures. It is one of the best months for outdoor adventures including hiking where all of the country’s walking trails will be fully open and the meadows and mountains will still be carpeted with colourful flowers. July and August are the hottest months in Armenia with temperatures in the late 20°Cs and the mountainous regions slightly cooler. The country is home to some beautiful lakes including Lake Sevan – one of the world’s largest freshwater lakes – which is a popular summer destination for swimming and other water activities.
September – November
Autumn is a wonderful time to visit Armenia. September is often regarded as one of the best months for travel with warm temperatures and mild evenings. Moving into October, the autumn foliage provides a spectacular backdrop to Armenia’s mountainous landscapes. The trees turn fiery shades of orange and red making it a great time for hiking and photography during golden hour. Autumn is also grape harvest season where wine enthusiasts can enjoy tours and tasting events in the vineyards and estates of Armenia. Early November tends to be a dry month, however rainfall will increase and temperatures will drop towards the end.
December – February
Armenia often experiences harsh winters and the months of December, January and February mark the low season and it is not recommended to visit during this time unless skiing. From December onwards, the temperatures dramatically drop between -10°C and 5°C and heavy snow is expected in the mountainous regions and sometimes even Yerevan. It is usually not recommended to visit Armenia during the winter unless it is for a ski or winter sports holiday. The resorts of Tsaghkadzor and Jemuk are well known for their skiing and snowboarding slopes which are frequently adorned by a thick blanket of beautiful white snow.
