Manaus Holidays

Capital of the state of Amazonas, Manaus can justifiably claim to be one of the most remote, if not unique, cities in the world. Located in the heart of the Amazon rainforest, Manaus was once an isolated jungle outpost. Over time the city grew in importance and today it is the main entry point to the Amazon and a starting port for many of the jungle cruises. Although Manaus is predominately a modern city, pockets of the historic town remain making it an interesting place to spend a day or two before heading into the Amazon for real. Visit the Cathedral, maybe take in a performance at the grand one-hundred year-old Teatro Amazonas or head to the waterfront to see the bustling harbour. You can also take a boat from Manaus to see the confluence of the Amazon and Rio Negro rivers. Pettitts have led the way in designing tailor-made holidays and tours to Brazil for over 25 years.
