Yangon Holidays
Located in fertile delta close to the Andaman Sea, Yangon is a relaxed city of charming tree-lined streets, crumbling colonial architecture and glistening pagodas. Originally a simple fishing village, Yangon grew slowly over the years until the British re-built the city, encouraged trade and eventually designated it capital in 1885. Many fine examples of Victorian architecture remain with the colonial centre home to balconied buildings, colourful temples, book sellers and tea shops. Highlights include Chaukhtatgyi, a colossal reclining Buddha, the National Museum, bustling Scott Market and magical Shwedagon Pagoda. This 2,500 year old Buddhist temple is resplendent in over 60 tonnes of gold leaf, is the most sacred of all Buddhist sites in Myanmar and was described by Kipling as ‘a golden mystery’. Every holiday and tour to Burma that we design is one-off, memorable and special.
