The Majesty of Cambodia and Laos

15 days from £3920 per person

This fifteen day journey combines both the religious and cultural capitals of Cambodia and Laos. Starting in Cambodia, visit the breathtaking Angkor Wat temple complex and vibrant capital of Phnom Penh, with its French-colonial and traditional Khmer architecture. From here, continue into Laos and visit Vientiane, the country's capital and the sleepy riverside UNESCO World Heritage town of Luang Prabang. This itinerary explores the religious and ancestral legacy of the region's great civilizations and includes some of the most beautiful cities in Asia.

Route: Siem Reap – Phnom Penh – Vientiane – Luang Prabang – Bangkok

Itinerary Highlights

Set away from the better known temples of the Angkor complex, Banteay Srei is dedicated to Shiva and Vishnu and has some fabulous religious sandstone friezes and sculptures.

The largest city and capital of Laos, Vientiane is set on the north bank of the Mekong River across from Thailand. The French repaired many temples here and left colonial buildings.

Lovely Luang Prabang in northern Laos is surrounded by forested green hills and hugged by the Mekong River. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the town was once the Royal capital.

Itinerary: The Majesty of Cambodia and Laos

Today depart the UK on the Thai Airways flight to Bangkok. (N)
Arrive into Bangkok and connect onto a flight to Siem Reap where you will stay for the next four nights. Siem Reap is the gateway to the temples of Angkor – some of the most spectacular religious monuments ever built. Capital of the ancient Khmer Empire, Angkor was abandoned in 1431 and reclaimed by the thick Cambodian jungle only to be rediscovered 400 years later by French naturalist Henri Mouhot. (N)

Over 1,100 years old, the initial sanctuaries were built by Indravarman and his son Yashovarman, however, at a later date the site was to become one of Jayavarman's capitals. The Roluos temples are considered the best preserved of the earliest monuments and are adorned with sculpted human figures and guardian spirits. (B)
