Chile and Argentina offer the traveller not only some of the world’s finest natural landscapes but also two of the continent’s most vibrant cities. This itinerary begins in Buenos Aires before flying to its counter–part in Chile. From here fly north to the surreal eroded landscapes of the Atacama Desert before heading south to Patagonia and Torres Del Paine National Park. With an expert guide explore the park then join the Stella Australis cruise for a memorable journey through the Strait of Magellan. End with two nights in the Glaciers National Park close to the incredible Perito Moreno glacier.

Today explore Buenos Aires with your guide. This cosmopolitan and European-like city is divided into different barrios (neighbourhoods) each varying in character. Highlights include the Plaza de Mayo - the main square in the heart of the city, the bohemian quarter of San Telmo, the colourful port area of La Boca and the famous Recoleta cemetery, where many famous mausoleums lie. In the evening, discover the city’s fantastic culinary scene or experience an authentic tango class. (B)

Today take a guided tour through the main streets of Santiago's civic centre with its many different architectural styles. Highlights include the colonial core of the city – the Plaza de Armas which is home to two neoclassical landmarks; the 19th century Palacio de la Real Audiencia which houses the National History Museum, and the stunning Metropolitan Cathedral. Also visit La Chascona, the home-turned-museum of famous Chilean poet and politician Pablo Neruda. (B)

One of the most recognised sites of Patagonia, Chile’s Torres del Paine National Park is a must-see on any Patagonia itineraries. This remote and beautiful area is filled with dramatic mountains, jagged glaciers and clear-blue lakes and is also a habitat for guanaco, condor and the native flightless rhea. In the company of specialist guides visit Nordenskjold Lake, Salto Grande waterfall, Lake Pehoé, Lake Grey and Amarga Lagoon. (B/L/D)

Today visit the spectacular Perito Moreno glacier which spans five kilometers across and towers some sixty metres above the surface of the lake. From an observation platform or boat watch as huge chunks of blue ice shear off the face of the glacier and crash into the waters below; a truly mesmerising sight. (B/L/D)
