Silk Road Holidays
There is no greater journey than to follow the medieval caravan routes of the historic Silk Road. In many ways, little has changed. The cities and towns that line the route remain far-flung destinations, frontier trading centres and melting pots of cultures and peoples that transcend provincial and, international boundaries. Xi’an marked the eastern limit of the original Silk Road and from here head west to Lanzhou and Xiahe, then on through desert and dunes to Dunhuang to visit the Mogao Caves. Approaching China’s western boundary, cross the Gobi to Urumqi and Turpan then fly to Kashgar to attend the extraordinary weekend market. This remote oasis city has more in common with its Central Asian neighbours and from here it is possible to cross the spectacular Torugart Pass in to Kyrgyzstan. Every holiday and tour to the Silk Road that we design is one-off, memorable and special.
