Sultan’s Battery was also once a military outpost and Tipu Sultan built a fort here in the 18th century. The town is home to two lovely homestay properties – the secluded plantation bungalow of Tranquil which is located on the Kuppamudi Coffee Estate and Amaryllis which has arguably one of the region’s finest views from its veranda. There is some excellent walking in and around Sultan’s Battery, more adventurous trekking including to Chembra Peak and a nearby 9th century Jain Temple that can be visited.
