Luxury Holidays in North East India

It is generally considered that the best time to visit North East India is between the months of October and March, however, it is worth bearing in mind that the states that comprise the North East cover a vast area of contrasting terrains and landscapes so temperatures and climates can vary considerably. Nevertheless, the period from October to March tends to be the driest period with lower rainfall and comfortable temperatures although in higher elevations it can be cold at night and cooler during the day. It is also not uncommon for there to be snowfall at higher elevations during winter with this period also coinciding with Nagaland’s Hornbill Festival – a major draw for visitors to the region. June to September sees the arrival of monsoon rains and thus wet weather and high temperatures are the norm. Although at its lushest, due to the heavy rainfall travelling during these summer months can be more challenging, especially in the less well-connected parts of the North East where access is limited. It is also worth bearing in mind that Kaziranga National Park is from the end of May and reopens at the start of October.
