A small rural hamlet located south-west of Kota, Bhainsrorgarh is dominated by the grand Bhainsrorgarh Fort. This impressive, rambling 18th century citadel is surrounded by its own charming village and sits high on a promontory jutting out into the River Chambal with far-reaching views across the river and surrounding plains. The area surrounding Bhainsrorgarh is yet to be fully discovered and remains both unexploited and rural making the fort an ideal base from which to explore this beautiful part of southern Rajasthan. Spend a morning at the 8th century Baroli Temples, known for their sublime carvings, and take time to visit some of the surrounding villages. These remain largely traditional and provide a particularly fascinating insight into pastoral Rajasthani life.
