Route: Ubud – Candidasa – Tembok – Munduk – Pemuteran

Bali has so much more to offer than beautiful beaches and this leisurely itinerary takes you on an incredible journey through what is a rich and diverse island of ancient temples and iconic rice terraces for which the island is so famous. Starting from Ubud, Bali’s cultural and artistic centre, explore the north-east of the island before travelling to the lush Balinese hill station of Munduk which is renowned for its excellent birdwatching. From here travel to Pemuteran on the north-west coast to relax, snorkel clear blue seas and explore Bali Barat National Park.

Day 1 Depart UK

Depart the UK on the Qatar Airways flight non-stop to Doha. (N)

Day 2 Doha to Denpasar – by air/ Denpasar to Ubud – 30kms

Arrive into Doha and connect onto the Qaar Airways flight to Denpasar in Bali. On arrival proceed by car to Ubud. (N)

Day 3 Ubud

Spend the day at leisure to acclimatise. (B)

Day 4 Ubud

Ubud is the artistic and cultural heart of Bali. This morning with your driver and guide visit Batubulan village to attend a Barong and Keris dance performance. Later visit Ubud and the handicraft villages of Celuk, Bataan and Mas which are noted for their carvers, gold and silversmiths, hand weavers and painters. A visit will also be made to the Goa Gajah or ‘Elephant Cave’, a Hindu meditation centre dating back to the 11th century, and the Tampak Siring temple dating from 984 AD where the holy springs are thought to have mystical powers. End your day with panoramic views of the still active Mt Batur volcano and Lake Batur and the surrounding rice terraces. (B)

Day 5 Ubud to Candidasa – 50kms

Depart for Candidasa on the east coast of Bali. Drive to Penglipuran to see a genuine example of a Balinese village before continuing onto the beautiful Besakih temple – the holiest site on Bali. Besakih is not one temple but a complex of twenty-two temples that lie scattered over the southern slopes of Mount Agung. The most important temple of all is the Pura Penataran Agung, the Mother Temple of Bali. Continue on to Candidasa stopping at Kerta Gosa to see the Hall of Justice dating from the 18th century it noted to be a fine example of Balinese architecture. The ceilings of two pavilions are richly decorated with traditional-style paintings made by artists from nearby villages. (B)

Day 7 Candidasa to Tembok – 75kms

Today leave for Tembok on the north east coast of Bali and enroute visit the traditional ‘ikat’ weaving village of Tenganan and the water palaces at Taman Ujung and Tirta Gangga. (B)

Days 8 - 9 Tembok

At leisure with your driver and guide at disposal. Set amidst a dramatic volcanic landscape on Bali’s north-eastern coast, the hotel enjoys an enviable position. This uniquely peaceful and tranquil resort is surrounded by tropical gardens and a spectacular infinity pool. The beach stretches as far as you can see and small fishing villages are dotted right along the coastline, in fact you will often see traditional fishing boats being hauled in and out of the water with their fresh catches on board. Day 10 Tembok to Munduk – 70kms

Continue your journey along the north coast stopping on the way to enjoy the views and local life via the towns of Tejakula, Kubutambahan and the Old Dutch colonial harbour town of Singaraja. From Lovina drive inland and uphill to Munduk, a Balinese hill station, to stay for two nights at the Munduk Moding Plantation Nature Resort and Spa which is set among manicured gardens on a working twelve acre coffee plantation. Day 11 Munduk

Today is at leisure with driver and guide at your disposal. Explore the nearby local markets for some handcrafted souvenirs, or maybe visit the Ulun Danu temple, dedicated to the god of fertility. The Munduk Moding Plantation offers guided treks, cycles and a tour of the plantation and the resort also attracts a variety of birdlife such as swallow, singing bush lark, kingfisher, red jungle fowl, pink necked pigeon, plaintive cuckoo and spider hunter which is you can often see. Day 12 Munduk to Pemuteran – 55kms

This morning continue your journey to Pemuteran on the north coast of the island. The area features strong artistic and cultural traditions that are reflected in the local pottery, weaving and temple designs. Relaxing on the therapeutic volcanic sands of Pemuteran combines well with Bali Barat National Park or diving the renowned reefs off Menjangan Island. (B)

Days 13 - 15 Pemuteran

Over the next three days relax and enjoy your hotel. There will be an opportunity to snorkel the pristine coral reefs of Menjangan Island which are home to numerous species of colourful tropical fish and Bali Barat National Park where over 160 different bird species have been recorded. (B)

Day 16 Pemuteran to Denpasar – 125kms/ Denpasar to Doha– by air/ Depart Doha

Today leave Pemuteran by car and return to Denpasar and in the evening depart on the Qatar Airways flight to Doha connecting on to your flight to the UK. (B)

Day 17 Arrive UK

Arrive back into the UK in the morning. (N)
