Discover Bali and Sulawesi

13 days from £3175 per person

This fascinating, contrasting and 'off the beaten track' itinerary combines Bali with the island of Sulawesi. Immerse yourself in the customs of the mysterious Toraja people where communities have scarcely been touched by the western world, and explore the stunning countryside of Sulawesi, one of Indonesia's lesser known islands. From here continue to Bali with stays in Ubud, to explore the beautiful surrounding countryside and unspoilt local villages, and Candidasa with its traditional markets and spectacular temples.

Route: Sanur – Makassar – Rantepao – Ubud – Candidasa

Itinerary Highlights

The distinctive island of Sulawesi is the fourth largest in the archipelago and located to the east of Kalimantan. It is home to a unique indigenous culture and pristine sandy beaches.

Rantepao on the Sadang River in Sulawesi is the cultural centre for the Toraja people. The town is surrounded by traditional villages, remarkable for their elongated, curved roofs.

Pura Besakih is the holiest site on Bali and location of the island’s ‘mother temple’. It is an extraordinary complex of twenty-two temples set over the southern slopes of Mount Agung.
