This extensive tour is a wonderful introduction to this fascinating country and a classic journey for the first-time visitor. Offering a tremendous range of scenery, Iran is also a veritable treasure trove of historic sites - both ancient and Islamic. Travelling through Iran, this tour showcases old 'Persia', a land of mosques, bazaars and stunning architecture and encompasses not only the capital Tehran, Shiraz and ancient Persepolis but also Isfahan, considered to be one of Iran's most beautiful cities, and Kerman.

Journey Highlights

Once one of the largest cities in the world, Isfahan still retains much of its past glory. Its tree-lined boulevards, Persian gardens and important Islamic buildings create a living museum.

Shiraz has been the heart of Persian culture for over 2000 years. Celebrated as a city of education and poetry. The ruins of Persepolis are a short drive outside the city.

Yazd is a dry city on the edge of the desert. It is famous for its ancient Persian windcatchers. It is also well known for Zoroastrian fire temples, handicrafts and silk weaving.

Day 1 London to Tehran

Fly with British Airways directly to Tehran. (N)

Day 2 Arrive Tehran

Arrive into Tehran in the early morning, where you will be met and transferred to the Espinas International Hotel (room reserved from Day 1) where you will stay for two nights. In the afternoon visit Archaeological, Glass and Carpet Museums.(B)

Day 3 Tehran to Hamadan – 337 kms

Today drive via Qazvin and through the Zagros mountains to Hamadan which was once the Achaemenid capital of Ecbatana. Later visit the Ganj Nameh inscriptions, the Tomb of Esther and Mordecai and the Gonbad-e-Alavian. Stay for two nights at the Parsian Azadi Hotel. (B)

Day 4 Hamadan

Full day excursion to see Achaemenid, Sassanian and Parthian remains at Taq-e-Bostan, Bisotun and Kangavar. (B)

Day 5 Hamadan to Isfahan – 464 kms

This morning leave Hamadan and drive 464kms to Isfahan. Stay for three nights at the Abbasi Hotel which has been converted from a Safavid caravanserai. (B)

Day 6 Isfahan

See Imam and Sheikh Lotfollah Mosques, the Ali Qapu Palace, the Armenian Cathedral and the Safavid bridges. (B)

Day 7 Isfahan

Visit the Friday Mosque with superb seljuk domes, as well as the Chehel Sotun and Hasht Behesht pavilions. (B)

Day 8 Isfahan to Shiraz – 485 kms

This morning it is a long drive via Cyrus’s Tomb at Pasargadae to Shiraz where you will stay for three nights at the Zandiyeh Hotel. (B)

Day 9 Shiraz

Visit the tombs of Hafez and Saadi, the Pars Museum, the Shah Cheragh shrine and the Eram and Narenjestan gardens. (B)

Day 10 Shiraz

Excursion to the great Achaemenid sites of Persepolis and Naqsh-e-Rostam. (B)

Day 11 Shiraz to Kerman – 543 kms

This morning leave Shiraz and drive via the Sassanian Palace of Sarvistan to Kerman. Stay for two nights at the Pars Hotel. (B)

Day 12 Kerman

Morning excursion to Mahan with its lovely Bagh-e-Tarikhi garden and shrine of Sheikh Nematollah. In the afternoon visit Kerman’s impressive bazaars. (B)

Day 13 Kerman to Yazd – 387 kms

Today leave Kerman and continue onto Yazd where you will stay for two nights at the Dad Hotel. (B)

Day 14 Yazd

In Yazd see the Friday mosque and surviving Zoroastrian buildings. (B)

Day 15 Yazd to Kashan – 419 kms

Leave Yazd and drive via the early mosque at Nain and the Mongol period shrine at Natanz to Kashan. Stay for one night at the Saraye-e Ameriha Hotel. (B)

Day 16 Kashan to Tehran – 258 kms

In the morning visit the Fin Gardens and the 19th Century mansions of Borujirdi and Tabatabawi. In the afternoon drive 258kms via the holy city of Qom to Tehran where you will stay overnight at the Espinsas International Hotel. (B)

Day 17 Tehran to London

Depart Tehran on the British Airways flight to London Heathrow. (B)
