Luang Prabang is the religious centre of the country and also a UNESCO World Heritage Site making it a wonderfully atmospheric place to explore. Visit the Royal Palace Museum, Wat Xieng Thong and That Makmo, climb Mount Phu Si or travel by boat upstream on the Mekong River to see the Buddha images of the Pak Ou caves. The surrounding villages are famous for the textiles they produce and are also well worth visiting.
