Malaysian Peninsula

A melting pot of cultures, religions, food and peoples, Malaysia is a dynamic destination.

The peninsula is the economic heart of the nation, a place of futuristic cities, charming colonial towns, lush rainforest and palm-fringed beaches. In many ways the peninsula is defined by its two major cities Kuala Lumpur and Singapore – both are capitals and both stylish, modern and cosmopolitan. From KL, head south to 600 year old Malacca, explore Chinatown and appreciate the striking Dutch, Portuguese and British colonial heritage or travel north to Penang and Georgetown – the oldest British settlement in the country. For those interested in scenery, walk the rolling tea hills of the Cameron Highlands, visit the world’s oldest tropical rainforest at Taman Negara and relax by the sea on the island of Langkawi.

When to visit the Malay Peninsula

The best time to visit the Malaysian Peninsula tends to be between December and March. During these months, the west coast—including destinations such as Penang, Langkawi, Malacca and Kuala Lumpur — enjoys dry, sunny weather with lower humidity. The east coast does however experience heavy monsoon rains during this time so is best avoided. If you are looking to visit one of Malaysia’s east coast islands including Perhentian or Tioman, the best time is between April to September, when seas are calm, days are dry and sunny and resorts are open. The west coast sees its monsoon season between October and May and whilst it isn’t as intense as the east coast, it is usually recommended not to visit at this time of year. Malaysia’s tropical climate means temperatures are fairly consistent year-round, averaging between 25°C to 35°C.
