After experiencing the busy city of Singapore, cross the Straits of Johor and drive up the West Coast of the Malay Peninsula, taking in the historic city of Malacca and the fast–growing capital of Kuala Lumpur. Relax in the pleasant surroundings of the Cameron Highlands tea hills before visiting the oldest British settlement at Penang. The tour finishes at leisure on the beautiful, tropical island of Langkawi.

Itinerary Highlights

The global financial centre of Singapore is an island city-state at the southernmost tip of the Malay Peninsula. The mix of Chinese, Malay, Indian and Western influences create a fascinating culture.

The modern skyline of Kuala Lumpur is dominated by the twin Petronas Towers. The structures are linked by a Skybridge, which provides stunning views of the busy city below.

More than 600 years old, the cosmopolitan port city of Malacca is a melting pot of people and cultures with influences ranging from the Dutch and Portuguese to Britain and China.

Itinerary: The Malay Peninsula

Depart London Heathrow on the British Airways flight direct to Singapore. (N)
Arrive Singapore and transfer to your accommodation. (N)
Accommodation in Singapore: Fullerton Hotel (or similar)
Today tour the city including Thian Hock Keng Temple, bustling Chinatown, the magnificent Sri Mariamman Temple, the Botanic Gardens, the Changi Chapel Museum and ascend Mount Faber for a panoramic view of the harbour. (B)

Early morning cross the Johor Causeway, which links Singapore with mainland Malaysia. Continue to the historic city of Malacca, which was founded in 1403. Visit St Paul's Hill, Porta De Santiago, Cheng Hoon Teng Temple and Jonkers Street. (B)

Today continue onto to Kuala Lumpur and proceed to your accommodation. In the afternoon, your guide will give you an orientation tour of Kuala Lumpur where you will be introduced to this cosmopolitan city. Highlights include the King's Palace, National Monument, National Mosque, Merdeka Square and the Islamic Museum. (B)

Set off to the Batu Caves – a daunting cave where you will climb 272 steps to reach the entrance of the main cave noted for its sacred Hindu shrine devoted to Lord Muruga. You may wish to visit the nearby Royal Selangor factory which is the largest producer of pewter in the world. Afternoon at your leisure further explore the city. (B)

Continue with your driver across country for the scenic to the Cameron Highlands, at an altitude of around 1,600 metres above sea level this is an important tea–producing region. (B)

Today drive through the rolling tea hills to Mount Brinchang the highest mountain in the Cameron Highlands at 2032 metres above sea level and take a guided walk into the Mossy Forest noted for its unique forest flora such as the carnivorous pitcher plant, primitive ferns and wild orchids. Finally, visit Sungai Palas the oldest tea factory in Malaysia. (B)

Take the scenic route north towards Ipoh and visit the famous Cave Temple and the Ubudiah Mosque, a magnificent building with a golden dome and the former palace of the Sultan of Perak. Then head to Bukit Merah and go by boat to Orang Utan Island, noted for its unique infant Orang Utan care unit. Finally cross over Penang Bridge onto the island of Penang. (B)

Today explore Penang known as the Pearl of the Orient and the oldest British settlement in Malaysia. See the various attractions in Georgetown including Dragon Mountain Hall, historic Fort Cornwallis, the Thai temple of Wat Chayamangkalaram and the Hainan Temple. Just outside of the city the Penang War Museum offers an interesting insight into the history of Malaya during World War II. Returning to the city, visit the Pinang Peranakan Mansion, now a museum, this is one of Penang's noted heritage mansions. (B)
