Route: Muscat – Nizwa – Wahiba Sands – Ras Al-Jinz – Salalah
Sharing a border to the north with the United Arab Emirates, to the west with Saudi Arabia and to the east with the Arabian Sea, Oman is famed for its spectacularly diverse natural scenery. This itinerary begins in capital Muscat, with ample time for exploration, before continuing onto historic Nizwa, Jabrin castle, Bahla Fort and the fascinating Bat tombs. Leaving the mountains of the Jabal Shams behind, drive to the Wahiba Sands where a night will be spent in the desert. End your journey by flying to Salalah in southern Oman to relax and experience the local region.
ITINERARY HIGHLIGHTS
The harbour of the port city of Muscat is an intriguing cluster of white-washed buildings. A convoluted history of traders and occupiers has left many interesting monuments.
The Al Hajar Mountains run through northern Oman and contain plateaus, gorges, villages, forts and castles within their steep rocky valleys. Jebel Shams is the highest peak at 3000m.
Salalah, the traditional capital of Dhofar, prospered due to the incense trade. During the monsoon season from July to September, the whole region turns a lush green.
