St Petersburg Holidays

Founded by Peter the Great in 1703, imperial St Petersburg is Russia’s grandest city. Originally an uninhabited swamp, it was Peter’s defeat of the Swedes that led to the construction of the new city which, for a period of time, was also made the Russian capital. A city of palaces, canals and churches, and a home for many of Russia’s greatest artists, writers and poets, there is plenty to see and do here. Spend a morning in the Hermitage Museum which houses one of the most magnificent collections of Western European art in the world, see the gold dome of St Isaac’s Cathedral or explore the Peter and Paul Fortress – St Petersburg’s oldest structure. Outside of the city, the grand imperial estate at Tsarskoe Selo and opulent Peterhof Palace, summer residence of the tsars, are particular highlights. Every holiday and tour to Russia that we design is one-off, memorable and special.
