Garden Route Holidays

Bordered by the Klein Karoo and arguably the most beautiful coastline in the world, the Garden Route extends 300kms from Mossel Bay to Storms River between the cities of Cape Town and Port Elizabeth in the Eastern Cape. One of South Africa’s best known journeys, the Garden Route encompasses an area of remarkable natural scenery, charming coastal towns, a range of diverse experiences and engaging indigenous communities. Most accommodation along the route is either in cosy guesthouses or small boutique hotels and all offer first-class hospitality. Explore vast wilderness areas and nature reserves, shop for traditional crafts, enjoy authentic cuisine and encounter wildlife in one of the region’s fine wildlife sanctuaries. Highlights include whale watching in Hermanus, the abundant seafood of coastal Knysna, the epic scenery of Route 62 and Addo Elephant Park which is South Africa’s third largest wildlife reserve and home to a large elephant population as well as lion, zebra and hyena.

Good Times

The best time to visit the Garden Route is generally between November and April. Temperatures are at their highest in January and February, as are visitor numbers with crowds peaking during Christmas and New Year. We recommend exploring the Garden Route in November, or between February and April where temperatures are warm and comfortable. Springtime in November also brings beautiful wildflowers along the route. Whist temperatures are cooler in the winter months between June and October, it is whale watching season giving visitors a great chance of seeing these majestic creatures in the water from the shoreline. It is important to remember that the Garden Route is home to a coastal climate where rain is common, especially in June and July.
