Greater Kruger Holidays

Greater Kruger encompasses Kruger National Park and the private game reserves that border the westerly edge of the reserve – an area covering around 20 million hectares of unspoilt and unfenced protected land. The private reserves in Greater Kruger limit the number of visitors at any one time providing uncrowded game viewing experiences and a lower impact on the animals. Kruger is also at the forefront of conservation efforts in South Africa and there are ample opportunities for visitors to learn more about the programmes in place here. Kruger National Park is easy to explore, the infrastructure is well well-maintained and almost every type of terrain and environment can be experienced. The Kruger region can easily be reached by flight or car from Johannesburg and South Africa’s cultural capital or Pretoria or overland by rail from Cape Town on the prestigious Blue Train.

Whist the Greater Kruger is considered a year-round destination, generally speaking, the best time to visit the Kruger National Park tends to be the dry season which runs from May to October. This time of year offers the best game viewing as vegetation is sparse making it easier to spot and track animals. The winter months also provide cooler temperatures and less humidity which are excellent conditions for a walking safari. The summer rainy season between November and April is the best time for birding. January and February are particularly great months for birdwatching due to migrant species having settled and breeding birds are typically in full plumage at this time of year.
