Central Thailand Holidays
The Kingdom of Thailand stretches from the Laotian border in the far north of the country to the Gulf of Thailand and Malaysia at its southern tip. However, it is the central region of Thailand that has the country’s greatest concentration of historic sites, centred around the nation’s vibrant capital city of Bangkok. This heaving, pulsating, colourful metropolis is a destination in itself – a place where grand golden palaces and serene Buddhist temples jostle for space beside street-food vendors and where small boats bobbing on the Chao Phraya River compete with speeding water taxis. Outside of Bangkok is a wealth of historic sites. Travel to Ayutthaya, which was established in the 14th century and became the Siamese capital. Here spend time exploring the ancient ruins then visit nearby Bang Pa-In which was once the summer residence of the Ayutthayan kings. Head west from Bangkok to pretty Amphawa to see the floating markets then continue on to picturesque Kanchanaburi which is the location of the infamous Bridge over the River Kwai. All roads in the east of the region lead to neighbouring Laos with overland routes linking Ubon Ratchathani and Pakse in Laos and Udon Thani with the Laotian capital of Vientiane. Pettitts Travel specialises in providing bespoke tailor-made holidays to Thailand and cultural tours to the region of central Thailand.
