Itinerary: San Francisco, Los Angeles and Las Vegas Explorer

Today depart the UK on your international flight to San Francisco. On arrival make your own way from the airport to your hotel where you will stay for the next three nights. This beautiful city of multi-coloured Victorian homes, bustling wharves, resident sea lions, world-class museums and art galleries, Alcatraz Island and the iconic Golden Gate Bridge – San Francisco is the perfect Californian city. Founded by Spanish settlers and built with Californian gold, famed for its fog and colourful 1960s hippie counter-culture, the remainder of the day is at leisure to relax and explore this fabulous city. Over the next two days explore San Francisco under your own arrangements. Spend a morning at the island prison of Alcatraz, watch sea lions from Pier 39 then have lunch in one of the crab shacks at Fisherman’s Wharf. Despite its hills San Francisco is great to explore on foot but do also take the opportunity to ride one of the famous rickety cable cars. If you can, remember to stop at Lombard Street, ‘the most crooked street in the world’, Coit Tower for stunning views and the 60s hippie district of Haight-Ashbury. Sports fans may like to watch a game of baseball ay AT&T Park or follow Highway 1 south on a day trip to visit the excellent aquarium at Monterey or the charming small town of Carmel. (N)
