This itinerary is the perfect choice for those tight on time but keen to discover the highlights of Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, New York and Boston in one memorable holiday. Journey between these great cities by train, a hassle free way to travel that allows you to sit back, relax and take in the scenic views. To begin, you’ll fly into Washington, D.C. and spend a couple of days wandering along the National Mall where you’ll find the Smithsonian museums, Lincoln Memorial and US Capitol building. In Philadelphia, visit the historic district of the city where you’ll spot landmark buildings connected to the Declaration of Independence, including Liberty Bell and Independence Hall. Moving on to the Big Apple, take your pick from the endless sightseeing options, vibrant shows, events and festivities that New York offers. The last stop is charming Boston, where after a couple of days spent exploring the city’s cobbled streets and following the historically significant Freedom Trail, your American adventure draws to an end.

Today you begin your journey by boarding your international flight to Washington Dulles Airport. On arrival you will make your own way to your conveniently located hotel, close to the Capitol Building, Lincoln Memorial and surrounding museums, which if time allows you might choose to begin exploring this afternoon. Today is free for you to continue discovering the cultural sights and iconic delights of the nation’s capital city. If you prefer a more comprehensive guide around the national monuments, you might choose to join a guided tour, alternatively continue to wander at your own pace. Sights you might not want to miss today include the National Mall, Smithsonian Institute and of course, the White House. (N)

This morning you will take the regional Amtrak train from Union Station on to 30th Street Station in Philadelphia. The train journey will take around 1 hour and 50 minutes, so sit back and enjoy the passing scenery. On arrival, make your own way to your hotel. Philadelphia has the vibrancy of a modern society, entwined with well-preserved, historical buildings connected by cobbled streets and elegant squares. It’s a fascinating city to visit, home to America’s most historic square mile and where the Declaration of Independence was written. (N)

This morning you will take the Amtrak train from Penn Station on to Back Bay Station in Boston, the journey time will be around 3 hours 30 minutes. On arrival, make your own way to your hotel. Boston is one of America’s oldest and most culturally symbolic cities, an academic hub that source’s innovative art, technologies and ideas that benefits the whole country, and world. Spend some time today exploring Boston, perhaps enjoying a seafood dinner and catching a Red Sox game this evening. (N)

Today you might choose to follow the red brick path that maps out the Freedom Trail, weaving in and out of Boston’s historical core, taking you past the sites and learning about the people that collectively founded America.
