Beaches and Islands of Vietnam Holidays

Vietnam, with its long 3,000km coastline and palm-fringed tropical islands, is home to some of the finest coastal scenery and beaches in South East Asia. The majority of the most popular resort areas are to be found in the centre and south of the country but there are also two main islands, namely Phu Quoc and Con Dao, where a number of beach hotels are also located. In the central region of Vietnam the white-sand China Beach which stretches from the city of Danang south to the historic trading port of Hoi An, is lined with luxurious beach properties and has a quiet and relaxed vibe. Further south, the well-known beaches at Nha Trang and Phan Thiet, the latter a morning’s drive from Ho Chi Minh City, are popular choices with beautiful settings and a good range of upmarket hotels. However, the ultimate tropical retreats are the islands of Con Dao and Phu Quoc which can be reached by air from Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Can Tho in the Mekong Delta. Here, the calm crystal-clear waters and soft sandy beaches are ideal for swimming and snorkelling. Much of the tiny Con Dao archipelago is also a pristine national park. Pettitts Travel specialises in providing bespoke tailor-made holidays to Vietnam and tours including Vietnamese beach escapes.

With the majority of Vietnam’s beaches located between the central regions and the southern regions of the country, it is generally considered that the best time enjoy a beach holiday in Vietnam is between the months of November and April and, specifically, December, January and February. During this period skies will mostly be clear, temperatures will range from 25 to 30°C, humidity will be lower and sea temperatures warm. With its tropical climate rainfall can still happen at any point throughout the year but the summer months, in particular, experience heavier showers, higher temperatures and the risk of storms or even typhoons. Similar to mainland Vietnam, the islands of Phu Quoc and Con Dao are also at their best from November to April. The weather at this time of year is at its sunniest and seas are calm and clear making it ideal for swimming, snorkelling and other water-based activities.

What to do in Beaches and Islands of Vietnam

With white-sand beaches, turquoise waters and a wide variety of excellent coastal resorts, Vietnam offers plenty of destinations for relaxation after a cultural tour of the country. Popular options on the Vietnamese mainland include famous China Beach which follows a bay north of the charming town of Hoi An, Phan Thiet and neighbouring Mui Ne which is one of Vietnam’s oldest resort towns and Nha Trang – the beach capital of Vietnam, with its sweeping golden beach and vivid blue sea framed by the rising hills of the central highlands. For those looking for something a little different, head offshore to the islands of Phu Quoc or the Con Dao archipelago. Phu Quoc is positioned at the southern tip of Vietnam close to Cambodia, is largely undeveloped and offers calm crystal-clear waters and soft sandy beaches ideal for swimming and snorkelling. Isolated Con Dao, located due south of Ho Chi Minh City, is a place of striking natural beauty, forms part of a national park and is known for its spectacular beaches and pristine coral reefs.
